Chapter 623

After considering it, Roxanne returned the bouquet to her office. She didn't do so because she accepted Lucian's gesture; she simply didn't want the fresh flowers to go to waste. This was why she had initially decided to send them back to him. I wonder what Lucian did with the flowers she returned. Did he throw them away as he'd suggested?

Lost in thought, a knock sounded on her door. Roxanne returned to her senses and invited the person in. Moments later, the door opened, and Jack Damaris entered.

"What brings you here, Mr. Damaris?" she asked, puzzled.

Jack smiled. "I was in the area, and hearing you were here, I decided to drop by and see how you're doing."

"Thank you for your concern, Mr. Damaris. I'm much better now."

Jack nodded and entered, surveying her office. Roxanne felt a surge of anxiety, subconsciously glancing at the bouquet on the couch. She'd intended to place them in a vase but had been distracted. She hadn't expected Jack's unannounced visit. Although she knew he wouldn't know their origin, she felt embarrassed.

"Oh? What's this?" Jack's gaze fell upon the flowers, then back to Roxanne.

Nervously, but trying to appear calm, Roxanne replied, "I received them this morning. I don't know who sent them. The deliveryman likely had the wrong address."

Jack raised an eyebrow, appraising her. What a weak excuse!

Roxanne met his gaze, offering a faint smile.

He chuckled at her expression. Instead of pursuing the matter, he said, "They're freshly picked. A thoughtful sender!"

Roxanne forced a smile and changed the subject. "I assume you're not just here to check on my injuries, Mr. Damaris. Is there something else?"

Jack sat opposite her. "You're right. There is."

As heir to a prominent family, Jack carried himself with impeccable posture, even seated, exuding an aura of quiet authority.

Relieved that Jack had changed the topic, Roxanne adopted a serious expression and gestured for him to continue.

"Besides your research institute, the Damaris family has selected several renowned doctors to collaborate. Would you like to meet them?"

Delighted at the prospect of meeting prominent figures in the medical field, Roxanne readily agreed. "It would be my honor."

Jack smiled. "Good. I'll inform you of the time and place."

Roxanne nodded.

After discussing the collaboration, Jack excused himself. His purpose for the visit having been fulfilled, he had no reason to linger.

As he left, he couldn't help but glance back at the flowers. He wondered who had sent them. Roxanne's earlier reaction had certainly piqued his curiosity.
