Chapter 698: Keep This a Secret

Roxanne was speechless for a moment before a grateful smile bloomed on her face. “In that case, I’ll give our collaboration my best effort.”

Jack raised his glass. “Great! On behalf of all the partners, I thank you for working with us! Here’s to our partnership!”

Roxanne clinked glasses with him, chuckling. Jack had been incredibly helpful. She always found herself easily engaged in conversations with Jack and Larry, perhaps because they shared the same profession. Her conversations with Lucian, however, often ended disastrously.

The smile faded slightly at the thought of Lucian. Jack started to speak, but noticed the shift in her expression. He deftly changed the subject to ease the tension. “What are the names of the two children from earlier?”

Her smile returned at the mention of her children. “Archie and Benny.”

Jack nodded. “I’ve always known you had children, but this is my first time seeing those adorable little ones. They certainly resemble you!”

Roxanne froze, a strange sensation washing over her. Jack's wording is certainly ambiguous! she thought. For a moment, I thought he was calling me cute!

She pinched herself under the table. No, no, no! What am I thinking? Jack was complimenting my children! Why am I associating that with myself? This must be Lucian’s fault! I’m being paranoid because of his strange comments!

“It’s my first time meeting them,” Jack said, “so I should bring them gifts. What would they like?”

Roxanne politely declined. “That’s not necessary. Archie and Benny don’t really care for material things. Besides, they have everything they need.”

Jack frowned. “Why are you so against me giving them gifts? We’re partners, I’ll be seeing them often. I wouldn’t want them to dislike me for not giving them anything.”

Unsure how to respond, Roxanne smiled. “If you insist, I’ll gladly accept. If you are going to give them something, then…”

She realized she couldn’t think of suitable gifts. The children rarely asked for anything, using money from Archie’s piggy bank to buy what they needed. They seemed to enjoy whatever she bought them, so she wasn’t sure of their preferences. Hmm… they did seem to like Lucian’s gifts.

Roxanne continued hesitantly, “I think Lego sets or model airplanes would be good.”

Jack raised an eyebrow. “All right, I’ll prepare some gifts. Keep this a secret, okay?”

Roxanne chuckled and nodded.
