Chapter 705: Cannot Make Decisions On Her Behalf
After cleaning the coffee table, Roxanne rose to discard some trash. Lucian stood in the doorway, blocking her path. โCould you please let me through, Mr. Farwell?โ
Lucian frowned at her voice, stepping aside to allow her passage. His gaze lingered on the flowers sheโd left on the couch, his eyes flashing with anger.
Returning from the trash, she heard him murmur, โDidnโt you say youโd treat me the same as the others?โ
Roxanne halted, meeting his gaze with a questioning expression. Frowning deeply, Lucian asked, โWhy did you return the flowers I sent, yet keep those from other people?โ
Before she could answer, he pressed further: โSo, who are the flowers from? Larry? Or Jack?โ
โTheyโreโฆโ she began, then, noticing his displeasure, stopped abruptly. Lucian, expecting a reply, was surprised by her silence. His displeasure deepened with her continued silence.
Roxanne wished to ignore him, continuing toward the house. He seized her wrist.
โWhy arenโt you answering?โ Lucianโs gaze was dark, his suspicions about her relationships with Larry and Jack intensifying.
Roxanne stopped, her gaze cold and filled with frustration. โIโve explained my relationships with them many times. If you insist on misunderstanding, thereโs nothing I can do. And what you said earlierโthat was your own assumption. I never agreed to it.โ
Lucianโs expression darkened further. After a moment, a sarcastic curl touched his lips. โIndeed, Iโve deluded myself.โ
He released her wrist. Surprise flickered across Roxanneโs face. Itโs the first time heโs let me off so easilyโฆ
A tense silence hung between them.
โIf thereโs nothing else, Iโll prepare dinner,โ she said, breaking the silence and heading toward the kitchen. This time, he didnโt stop her.
From the kitchen doorway, his voice rang out: โThereโs no need to prepare dinner for Essie. Iโll take her home when she comes downstairs.โ His gaze was intensely dark, frightening.
The way I see it, he thought, Roxanneโs acceptance of flowers from another man is equivalent to accepting his pursuit. Naturally, I shouldnโt intrude. Taking care of Essie has likely become an inconvenience for her. Otherwise, why would she leave the three children home to eat takeout?
Roxanne turned, glancing at him. โItโs a promise I made her. As long as she doesnโt say otherwise, Iโll make dinner. Even though youโre her father, you canโt make decisions on her behalf.โ
With that, she turned and entered the kitchen.
When Archie, Benny, and Estella came downstairs, they found Lucian standing silently in the living room. The trio exchanged glances, sensing the strained atmosphere. It doesnโt take a genius to figure out that the two adults had argued, and it was about those flowers.
