Chapter 710: Hugging Her
Roxanne clearly heard the children's voices. A strange feeling arose, quickly overtaken by guilt. Just half an hour ago, she and Lucian had argued. Now, during a game, she'd lost her balance and fallen into his arms. To others, it might seem deliberate; only she knew it was an accident. But any explanation would likely make her appear suspicious.
She remained stiff in his embrace, her emotions a turmoil. Estella, however, remained engrossed in the game. "Everyone stay put!" she emphatically ordered.
Archie and Benny immediately complied. Seeing no response from the adults, Estella stared at them with feigned severity.
"Got it," Lucian's deep voice murmured beside her ear. Roxanne was surprised. To obey Estella and remain still meant staying in his arms—and the children's eyes were fixed on them.
Aversion welled up. She tried to pull away, but Lucian's arm tightened. "Essie's waiting for your reply," he whispered. Roxanne stiffened again, acutely aware of Estella's gaze. Though she couldn't see the girl's expression, she imagined it to be pleading. Finally, she murmured, "Okay."
The children's faces lit up with delight. Lucian, hugging Roxanne, discreetly observed their glee, realizing their playful manipulation. Touched and amused, he remained motionless.
Seeing her compliance, he chuckled softly. Roxanne tensed at the sound of his laughter, lifting her eyes to meet his. His smile hadn't entirely faded; a hint of tenderness remained. Initially annoyed, she was quickly captivated by his charming smile. This is the first time I've seen him smile like that…
They gazed at each other for a while before Roxanne snapped back to reality. She noticed Estella hadn't turned around. Her brows furrowed slightly. "I'm a bit tired, so I'm not playing anymore," she said softly, breaking free from Lucian's embrace, whirling around, and going upstairs.
The children watched her go, exchanging guilty glances; they'd been too obvious. Lucian frowned, exasperation clear in his eyes. It looks like she’s still unwilling to forgive me.
Estella quickly recovered. Pointing at her father, she softly announced, "Daddy, you're out!"
Lucian nodded casually, stepping back from between Archie and Benny.
