Chapter 744: Filled With Remorse
Initially, Estella hid behind Catalina, but upon hearing Aubreeโs claim of being her future mother, her expression changed instantly. She glared at Aubree angrily before running upstairs.
Aubree's face fell as she watched the girl leave. Catalina breathed a sigh of relief. "Ms. Estella's emotions are often unstable. I hope you'll forgive her, Ms. Pearson," she said.
Aubree offered a strained smile. Amidst her frustration, she heard sounds at the mansion's entrance and saw Lucian returning.
"Has Mrs. Farwell left already, Lucian?" Aubree quickly composed herself, then looked at him pitifully.
After a brief glance, Lucian nodded indifferently and turned to Catalina. "Where's Essie?" He'd asked Catalina to care for Estella before leaving, hence his question.
Catalina glanced at Aubree before replying, "Ms. Estella... went back to her room."
Lucian furrowed his brows. What did Aubree do to Essie again? he wondered.
"Since Mrs. Farwell has left, should I...?" Aubree cast a pleading look at Lucian, unsure whether to leave or stay.
Instead of addressing her, he instructed Catalina, "Arrange a guest room for Ms. Pearson."
Catalina was surprised Lucian would allow Aubree to stay, but complied. Knowing Estella's and Lucian's feelings toward Aubree, she prepared a room farthest from their bedrooms.
Upon hearing she could stay, Aubree's heart leaped. "I promise not to cause any trouble!" she declared.
Lucian nodded coldly. Earlier, his mother had spent considerable time persuading him to let Aubree remain, skillfully countering his objections. He'd ultimately agreed, but this didn't signify a change in his attitude.
Catalina soon finished preparing the guest room and invited Aubree to inspect it. Instead, Aubree looked at Lucian. "My arm is injured. Can you help me with my luggage?"
Frowning, Lucian indifferently grabbed her luggage and followed her upstairs. Displeasure flashed across Aubree's face upon seeing the distant location of her room. Why is it so far from Lucian's room? she thought.
"This guest room is easier to clean and larger. It will be more convenient for you, Ms. Pearson," Catalina explained with a smile.
Aubree offered a forced smile in thanks. As Lucian prepared to leave after setting down the luggage, she called out, "Lucian!"
He turned.
"I tried to talk to Essie, but she still dislikes me. Can I take Essie shopping tomorrow to make amends for my past mistakes?" Remorse filled her face as she looked at him cautiously.
Lucian remained unmoved. "That won't be necessary. Essie doesn't need anything at the moment. You should focus on recovering and return home soon."
He left the room without giving her a chance to respond.
