Chapter 765: Something Was Moved
Archie and Benny ran to a corner, glancing furtively over their shoulders at Roxanne to ensure she was out of earshot before whispering, "Well? What did Mr. Farwell say?"
Estella, recalling her conversation with Lucian, replied, "Daddy said it was his fault, and he won't do it again."
The boys sighed with relief. "Hmph! Mr. Farwell's the one pursuing Mommy, yet he made her angry," they chided. "If he hadn't seemed sincere, we wouldn't be helping him."
Despite Lucian's fault, Estella felt guilty. "Daddy already knows he made a mistake, so don't stop helping him," she said softly.
Her pitiful tone softened Archie and Benny. "Don't worry. We'll help him," they replied. Then, curiously, "By the way, did you call Mommy this late just to tell us this?"
A brief silence followed, worrying the boys. Finally, Estella spoke, "I want to be with you two and Ms. Jarvis. I don't want Ms. Pearson..."
Regret washed over Archie and Benny. "We're sorry. If we'd known, we would have told Mr. Farwell so you could stay," they apologized.
Estella shook her head. "I don't blame you. It's all Ms. Pearson's fault."
"That evil woman! If she bullies you, let us know. We'll get back at her," the boys replied indignantly.
Estella shyly smiled. "Thank you, Archie. Thank you, Benny," she murmured, sounding much more relaxed.
The children chatted before reluctantly ending the call. After hanging up, Estella remembered Roxanne's words. She took some kraft paper and began making paper roses. The anticipation of Roxanne's reaction filled her heart.
Seeing it was late, Catalina went upstairs to bathe Estella, knocking several times before receiving a response. Finding Estella in the doorway, Catalina asked curiously, "What were you busy with, Ms. Estella?"
Estella's eyes crinkled as she pointed to the paper roses. Catalina looked, then patted her head. "You've done a good job. They look beautiful."
Catalina's praise increased Estella's eagerness to see Roxanne's reaction. Her smile widened. Catalina, noting Estella's brightest smile since Aubree's arrival, felt her heart melt. "It's getting late. Let's get you cleaned up and tucked into bed. You can finish tomorrow, okay?"
Estella nodded, and Catalina led her to the bathroom. While undressing Estella, Catalina sensed something was amiss. "I could be imagining it, but something seems moved. Only Mr. Farwell, Estella, and I come in here. Maybe one of us moved it."
Dismissing it, Catalina bathed Estella, waiting until she fell asleep before leaving.
