Chapter 768: The Mosquitoes Keep Biting Me

Meanwhile, although the light in Aubree's room was off, she remained awake. Waiting until Lucian drove Estella away from the Farwell residence, Aubree quietly gathered some items, crept to Estella's room, and subtly replaced a few things in the bathroom. Lucian's haste had left the door ajar, simplifying her task. She carefully checked the room before leaving, ensuring no trace of her presence.

Back in her room, the image of Estella's distress filled her with glee. That little brat... Let's see if she dares to defy me again!

Estella's condition worsened during the drive to Roxanne's house. She incessantly scratched, a sight Lucian noticed in the rearview mirror. At a red light, he called Roxanne.

Roxanne, already prepared with her medical kit, answered immediately. "I'm on my way, but Essie can't stand the itching and keeps scratching. Perhaps you could talk to her for a bit."

Lucian's words, subconsciously tinged with the notion of Roxanne as Estella's mother, went unnoticed by Roxanne, who readily agreed.

Hearing Roxanne's voice, Estella cried out, "I want to talk to Ms. Jarvis!" Lucian passed her the phone. Clutching it, she complained, "Ms. Jarvis, it's so itchy! The mosquitoes keep biting me!"

Roxanne's heart ached at Estella's misery. "Be good and don't scratch, okay? I'll fix it later."

Roxanne engaged Estella in conversation about arts and crafts, distracting her and calming her restless hands. Lucian breathed a sigh of relief, speeding up.

Soon, they arrived at Roxanne's residence. "We're here," Lucian announced, his voice barely audible over the phone. Roxanne answered the intercom, then opened the gate and waited at the mansion's entrance.

In the darkness, she watched as Lucian's car pulled up. He exited, his thin, gray shirt clinging to him, and carried Estella from the car.

"Ms. Jarvis!" Estella reached for Roxanne, wanting to be held. Roxanne moved forward, but Lucian stepped back.

Remembering their earlier argument, Roxanne assumed his reluctance stemmed from his displeasure over her relationship with Jack. However, Lucian simply frowned, saying, "We don't know if it's contagious."
