Chapter 770: Will Not Be Infected

At the sight of Lucian's condition, Roxanne frowned. Estella, having only heard of the contagion and not seen Lucian's rash, shrank back, refusing to let the adults near.

Gathering herself, Roxanne saw Estella huddled in a ball and her heart ached. "Come here, Essie. Let me look at you."

Estella shook her head timidly. "No, it's okay. I'll infect you, Ms. Jarvis."

Roxanne's eyes stung. Smiling, she coaxed, "I'm not afraid. I've treated similar cases before and have had it myself. I won't be infected again."

Even Lucian was momentarily surprised, mistakenly believing her.

Estella studied Roxanne suspiciously. Only after determining Roxanne wasn't lying, and her own discomfort became unbearable, did she slowly approach and extend her hand.

Roxanne stroked her head before taking her wrist to examine her. Lucian watched, a dark look in his eyes. Her earlier words had fooled me, too. But she hadn't examined Essie; how could she know it was contagious? She was just comforting her. By the time he realized this, Roxanne was already taking Estella's pulse. A strange feeling welled up inside him. She has no idea of her relationship with Essie, yet she risks so much to help her… He even regretted bringing Estella. I should have taken Essie to the hospital. At least, I could have prevented Roxanne from being infected.

While Roxanne examined Estella, Archie and Benny cautiously entered. They had heard noises and, seeing Lucian's car, initially thought he had arrived alone, intending to observe any potential argument between the adults. Upon reaching Roxanne's bedroom, they saw Estella, pitifully ill, with red spots on her wrist and neck. Worried, they rushed to her.

Both adults were lost in thought, and Estella was itching intensely. No one noticed Archie and Benny's arrival until Lucian did. His brows furrowed, he warned, "Don't come in!"

But it was too late. Archie and Benny touched Estella's neck, worry etched on their faces. "What's wrong with Essie, Mommy?"

Roxanne's gaze snapped from Estella's wrist at their voices. Her pupils constricted as she saw their outstretched hands.

Withdrawing their hands, Archie and Benny looked at each other, puzzled. "So itchy!" Benny examined his wrist, finding similar red spots.
