Chapter 805: How Are You Feeling

Roxanne chatted with her sons as they descended the stairs. Midway through breakfast, the doorbell rang sharply. The boys looked up, eyes bright with anticipation, sneaking glances at the door, assuming their father had arrived.

Roxanne, puzzled by their sudden elation, opened the door to find Madilyn. Madilyn craned her neck, peering inside as if searching for someone.

Roxanne was about to ask Madilyn about the previous night when the boys rushed over, smiling at their godmother. "Aunt Madilyn, have you had breakfast? Do you want to join us?"

Madilyn, intending to ask about Lucian's departure, was interrupted. She ruffled their hair, smiling, "I'll pass. I need to get to work. Enjoy yourselves, boys."

Turning to Roxanne, she asked, "How are you feeling? Bad hangover? I saw you drinking quite a bit last night."

Roxanne reassured her, "I'm fine, just a slight headache. A day's rest should cure it." Relieved, Madilyn nodded, forgoing further questions. She needed to work an extra shift; the hospital had been calling incessantly, allowing only a brief visit on her way to work. After confirming Roxanne was well, she said goodbye and left.

Once Madilyn was gone, both boys sighed in relief. That was close; Aunt Madilyn almost revealed their secret. Though Lucian's actions seemed illogical, the boys believed their father had his reasons. He knew they were on his side and wouldn't have asked them to keep the secret unless necessary.

With Madilyn's car gone, Roxanne's curiosity grew. She sensed Madilyn had been looking for someone; the boys' anxiousness to change the subject confirmed her suspicion that they were hiding something. Knowing she might not get the truth, she chose not to press the issue. After breakfast, she sent them to kindergarten.

At the entrance, they saw Estella holding Lucian's hand. The sight of Lucian triggered a strange feeling in Roxanne; she vaguely recalled hearing his voice the night before.

"Ms. Jarvis," Estella's voice startled Roxanne back to reality. She smiled down at the girl. Estella looked at Roxanne with concern. "Ms. Jarvis, how are you feeling?"

Roxanne was surprised by the abrupt question.

"Daddy said you had a lot to drink last night," Estella explained innocently.

Roxanne looked at Lucian, momentarily stunned. He looked calm. "She smelled the alcohol, so I told her."

Unexpectedly, Lucian had explained himself. After a moment, Roxanne replied softly to Estella, "Thank you for your concern, Essie. I'm feeling much better now."

Estella nodded obediently, relieved.
