Listen to this chapter:

When they arrived in the living room, Roxanne was forced to sit on the couch. The children flocked around her, staring with concern at her finger, wrapped in a handkerchief, while Lucian unsuccessfully searched for the medical kit. Archie jumped off the couch and retrieved the kit from the TV cabinet. Lucian patted the boy's head gratefully, took the kit, and sat beside Roxanne. The children hurriedly stepped aside. Although his face remained impassive, and his presence made her shudder, his movements seemed gentler than usual. Roxanne watched him for several seconds before looking away, forcing her gaze to the floor. Prolonged eye contact would only lead to misunderstandings. He obviously hates me. Why is he being so caring?

After cleaning and bandaging her cut, Lucian released her hand. Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief and leaped up, creating distance between them. "Thank you, and I'm sorry again for troubling you," she said. He frowned slightly but didn't respond.

Roxanne noticed the mess in the kitchen and started to get up. "What are you doing?" Lucian asked, his voice sullen.

Roxanne froze. "The floor needs cleaning," she said. "The children might step on the shards." Lucian's scowl deepened. Despite this woman's stellar credentials, she can't even take care of herself! Roxanne grew anxious, unsure what she'd done wrong. Could it be because of the trouble I caused earlier?

Before she could apologize, he said, "You can't get your bandage wet. Let me find you a housekeeper." Without waiting for a response, he called his assistant, Cayden.

Cayden, about to wash up and go to bed, received a call from his employer. He answered nervously. "Find me a housekeeper and deliver them to No. 32 Durwest Garden within half an hour," Lucian said before hanging up. Stunned, Cayden contacted a housekeeping company and personally escorted the housekeeper to the address.

"They're on their way," Lucian told Roxanne quietly.

Roxanne, relieved that he'd found a housekeeper, sat some distance away. The three children sat between them, exchanging silent glances. The atmosphere was tense.

Twenty minutes later, the doorbell rang, breaking the silence. Lucian answered it. Cayden stood there with a middle-aged woman. Lucian gestured them inside.

The housekeeper cleaned efficiently, engaging the children in animated conversation. They laughed constantly. Seeing this, Roxanne had an idea. "Excuse me," she said, "would you consider working here full-time? Your main duties would be childcare, with some housekeeping. I'll leave the salary to you."

The woman readily agreed. "I'd love to; I happen to like children. You can call me Lysa."
