Chapter 831: How Do You Know

Naturally aware of Sonya's intentions, Aubree nodded and returned to her room. Seeing this, Sonya retrieved her phone and dialed Lucian. Her face clouded over.

"What is it, Mom?" Lucian answered, having just left the Queen residence and en route to the office.

"Where are you?" Sonya demanded, her voice displeased.

Lucian's brows furrowed. "I'm on my way to work."

"I'll inform your father. Come home immediately," she ordered coldly.

Hearing her wrath, Lucian wanted to inquire, but Sonya hung up. Confusion filled him as he stared at his dark screen, but he turned the car around and headed to the Farwell residence.

"Mrs. Farwell is waiting for you, Mr. Farwell," the butler greeted him. "She's in a rather bad mood. Please be careful."

Lucian nodded curtly and entered the living room, where his mother sat on the couch, her face in her hands.

"Mom, why did you summon me?" Lucian asked solemnly, sitting on the sofa.

Sonya glared at him. "You still dare call me 'Mom'? Why didn't you heed my warning?"

Lucian frowned, utterly bewildered.

Sonya's anger intensified at his clueless expression. "What's going on between you and Roxanne?"

"She's Essie's biological mother."

Sonya exploded at his continued defense of Roxanne. "Precisely because she's Essie's mother, I don't want you seeing her! Why are you so obsessed with a vile woman who abandoned her daughter?"

Lucian had anticipated a discussion about his marriage to Aubree, not a lecture on Roxanne.

"There's a misunderstanding," he replied, rubbing his temples.

"What misunderstanding?" Sonya spat.

Lucian remained speechless. He sensed a misunderstanding but couldn't articulate it.

"That woman will do anything to get her way!" Sonya exclaimed. "She'd better not have abandoned Essie for her own gain!"

Lucian's expression darkened. "I know her better than you do. I understand your opinion, but you shouldn't make such accusations without proof."

He knew Sonya's negative feelings stemmed from six years prior, but he hadn't expected this vitriolic attack.

"How do you know I don't have proof?" Sonya challenged, her gaze fixed on him.

Lucian stared back, bewildered, unsure what proof she possessed.
