Chapter 859: Would She Feel Guilty?

While Roxanne hesitated about rushing to the Farwell residence, Jack emerged, document in hand, calling, โ€œMs. Jarvis.โ€

She suppressed her worry and approached him. โ€œWhatโ€™s this?โ€

โ€œYou didnโ€™t arrive for some time, so I brought the document you need. Review it and sign if there are no issues.โ€

She murmured assent, carefully examined the document, and nodded. โ€œEverything looks fine.โ€

โ€œExcellent,โ€ he smiled. โ€œYou seem upset. Did something happen?โ€

Recalling Estellaโ€™s cries, Roxanne fell into a daze.

Jack, puzzled by her silence, asked, โ€œMs. Jarvis?โ€

Roxanne jolted, offering an apologetic smile. โ€œThese are the medicinal herbs we need. Anything else I can help with?โ€

Jack shook his head.

Roxanne took her leave. โ€œIโ€™ll leave the rest to you. I have urgent business to attend to.โ€

Observing her expression, Jack noncommittally agreed, โ€œSince itโ€™s urgent, you should go.โ€

Roxanne thanked him and hurried away. Jack watched her go, deeply perplexed. He wondered what had caused her distress. Archie and Benny hadnโ€™t looked well that morning, though his years of medical experience suggested they were likely faking. He hadnโ€™t pursued it, but now it seemed he'd misjudged the situation. What else could distress her besides her children and work?

He chuckled at himself. He couldn't believe he'd made such a misjudgment.

A moment later, Dean emerged, finding Jack alone. โ€œMr. Damaris, any other instructions?โ€ he asked. โ€œWhereโ€™s Ms. Jarvis?โ€

Jack, snapping out of his thoughts, handed Dean a list. โ€œPrepare these medicinal herbs.โ€

Dean, refraining from further questions, immediately complied, returning inside to instruct the staff.

At the Farwell residence, Estella watched her father hang up, tears in her eyes. Lucian's heart ached, and he felt annoyance toward Roxanne. Estella had cried inconsolably, even hearing Roxanne couldn't come immediately. Yet, a glimmer of hope remained in her eyes. Lucian wondered what Roxanne would think if she saw Estella now. Would she feel guilty?

โ€œW-When is Ms. Jarvis coming?โ€ Estella sobbed, arms outstretched pitifully.

Lucian held her close, unsure what to say. Even if Roxanne came, it would be an hour later. He couldn't bear to let Estella cry for that long.

โ€œDaddyโ€ฆโ€ Estella urged.

Lucian stroked her head, avoiding the question. โ€œThere, there. Iโ€™ll take you to see Mr. Lann.โ€ Currently, only James, besides Roxanne, seemed capable of stopping her tears.
