Chapter 867: Mommy Loves You Forever

โ€œMommy, is it because of Essie?โ€ Archie asked, the thought striking him as Roxanneโ€™s first question upon arriving home had been about Estella.

Roxanneโ€™s expression shifted instantly, revealing the accuracy of his guess. Archie's perceptiveness surprised her.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong with Essie?โ€ Benny inquired, puzzled.

The boysโ€™ concern grew at Roxanneโ€™s look, but they knew expressing their worry would only add to her sadness. They carefully concealed their anxiety.

Roxanne hesitated, then asked, โ€œWould you be angry if you wanted to see me, but I didnโ€™t arrive in time?โ€

The boys exchanged glances and shook their heads in unison. โ€œNo!โ€

Roxanne looked doubtful. After a moment, they smiled sheepishly, holding up their hands, thumbs and index fingers pinched together to form a tiny gap. โ€œWell, maybe just a little, but we wonโ€™t really be angry, Mommy! Weโ€™ll forgive you as long as you show up eventually!โ€

Roxanneโ€™s heart melted at their sincere expressions. โ€œThank you, darlings!โ€

The boys embraced her, whispering, โ€œEssie must feel the same way. Donโ€™t worry, Mommy!โ€

Roxanne nodded, but worry lingered. The situation with Estella was vastly different. She remembered Estellaโ€™s initial autism diagnosis and the difficulty of her improvement. Regression due to Roxanneโ€™s absence would be unforgivable.

Archie and Benny exchanged glances, then cautiously asked, โ€œSo, Mommy, are you sad because of Essie?โ€

Roxanne nodded, guilt etched on her face. โ€œEssie cried and cried, but I didnโ€™t get to her in time.โ€

The boysโ€™ faces crumpled with concern. Their worry was palpable, yet they smiled, comforting Roxanne. โ€œEven then, weโ€™ll still forgive you, Mommy! Essie will too!โ€

Roxanne was deeply touched. The boys looked at her solemnly. โ€œItโ€™s because we know how difficult your job is, and how much you love us!โ€

Roxanne kissed each forehead. โ€œThank you for comforting me, darlings. Mommy loves you forever.โ€

Their words eased her guilt. She retrieved her phone to call Lucian, but as the call connected, the doorbell rang.

โ€œOh, is that Mr. Farwell?โ€

The boysโ€™ eyes brightened expectantly. Roxanne, too, hoped it was Lucian. She rushed to the door.

Their faces fell as the visitor came into view, quickly dashing Roxanneโ€™s hopes as well.
