Chapter 898: Force Herself To Calm Down
โAs long as I find a method effective, it isnโt despicable,โ Lucian retorted coldly, his scrutiny fading.
Roxanne nodded self-deprecatingly, her eyes flickering. โOh well, I lack foresight.โ Lucian stared at her thoughtfully, then offered, much gentler than before, โIf youโre interested, I can retain you as Herbscape Groupโs technical advisor.โ
Roxanne snapped her head around, frowning in puzzlement. Heโd been furious moments ago; now he was extending an olive branch? Was this a chance to salvage things? Mirth bubbled within her.
Lucianโs hand tightened on her wrist when she remained silent. โFarwell Group can offer the same resources as Damaris Group.โ
The air grew colder, and Roxanneโs heart sank. After a moment, she declined with feigned calmness, โNo, thank you. Many doctors are more outstanding. Given Farwell Groupโs resources, you can undoubtedly find someone more reputable.โ
Sheโd only agreed to be Herbscapeโs advisor because of their project. But if Farwell acquired Herbscape, that project would be irrelevant, eliminating her need for involvement.
However, Lucian believed she chose Jack over him. Murderous rage enveloped him; a storm brewed in his eyes. โWhat if I insist?โ
Roxanneโs brows furrowed. โFarwell Group canโt give me everything. Donโt coerce me.โ
He suddenly moved closer, until they were nearly face-to-face. Roxanne instinctively stepped back, unaware sheโd reached the door. She turned, then back to Lucian, whoโd advanced, their breaths mingling.
Her eyes widened in panic; she pushed at him. โWhat are you doing? Let go of me!โ
He easily caught her hands, restraining them above her head. His gaze smoldered. โI gave you a chance!โ He leaned in.
Roxanne could only watch helplessly as his face neared. Their noses touched; she trembled. Before she could react, his lips found hers.
She struggled, trying to protest, but he grasped her chin, forcing her mouth open, silencing her. His kiss intensified, his breath hot against her face. Panicked, she bit his lip.
Lucian grunted, covering his mouth. He recoiled. They stared at each other, a silence filled with unspoken emotions. He looked at her, a hand pressed to his bleeding lip, his gaze scorching, tinged with lingering darkness. Roxanne dug her nails into her palms, forcing herself to calm down.
