Chapter 92: Estella
As soon as Roxanne spoke, an awkward silence filled the car. Realizing what she'd said, she regretted it instantly, lowering her gaze and remaining silent.
Lucian stared at Roxanne's profile, his gaze dark and unreadable. Does she resist me this much? Why does she always push me toward Aubree?
After a while, he replied coldly, "She still has something on and isn't leaving yet."
Roxanne gripped the steering wheel angrily. How dare he! Aubree's too busy to give him a ride, but that doesn't mean I'm obliged!
However, Lucian remained motionless, and Roxanne knew she couldn't force him out. She started the engine and drove away from the Queens' mansion.
Aubree emerged from the mansion and, seeing Lucian in the rearview mirror, immediately turned livid. She quickly entered her car and followed.
Once on the main road, Roxanne remembered something. "Where are you going?"
Lucian, exhausted from a long workday and an upcoming dinner with Alfred, felt waves of fatigue wash over him. After Roxanne's question, he massaged his temples. "To the office. It's on your way."
"It's so late, though. Are you still working overtime?" Roxanne asked gently, her brows furrowed as she glanced at him.
Lucian hummed in acknowledgment, too tired to speak. He always felt relaxed around Roxanne.
Seeing Lucian's silence, Roxanne also drove in silence. Yet, his presence beside her sparked a flood of questions. She remembered Lucian saying before their divorce that Aubree was the only woman worthy of marrying him, and that their marriage was delayed solely because of Roxanne. This had been a source of pain for years. Eventually, she granted him his freedom.
I thought he'd marry Aubree immediately. But six years have passed, and they still haven't wed. What happened?
Roxanne glanced at Lucian, on the verge of asking, but suppressed the urge. It was a private matter between Lucian and Aubree. What right do I have to question them? I'm an outsider. Besides, it couldn't be my fault.
Lucian closed his eyes, hoping for rest, but random thoughts overwhelmed him. He didn't understand his actions. His chauffeur waited outside, but seeing Roxanne, he'd followed her. He'd gotten into her car before realizing what he'd done.
Could it be because I overheard Roxanne's conversation with Old Mr. Queen? The thought of her marrying someone else frustrates me!
Suddenly, Lucian's phone rang. He looked at the caller ID, his gaze darkening.
Catalina said anxiously, "Mr. Farwell, when are you coming back? Ms. Estella has a fever."
Lucian's expression turned cold. "Got it. I'll be right back."
He hung up and turned to Roxanne. "Please take me back to the manor. Essie is unwell; I need to check on her."
