Chapter 933: A Harmonious Atmosphere
Estella, though confused, smiled innocently, knowing Roxanne's praise. She obediently retracted her hand. Roxanne then retrieved her tools and carefully scooped up the yellow flower, roots and all.
Estella tilted her head, puzzled. "For medicinal herbs like this, we need to preserve the roots as well," Roxanne explained patiently. The girl nodded, though she didn't fully understand. Knowing Roxanne sought such flowers, Estella quickly searched the area.
She soon found a large patch, and Roxanne collected several more. Noon arrived, and the children's slowed pace revealed their hunger. Roxanne led them back to the tent, where she had prepared a variety of food that morning. The children's happy feasting brought a smile to her face.
"Essie, this is for you," Benny said, offering sweets from his bag.
Estella beamed, accepting them. "Thank you, Benny." Archie similarly offered snacks.
What on earth was Daddy even thinking? He only prepared tools, not food for Essie. Good thing we were prepared.
Roxanne quickly intervened as the children piled on snacks. "Slow down! I'm making barbeque."
At the word "barbeque," the children instantly abandoned their snacks, eyes fixed on the grilling rack Roxanne held. Their eager anticipation amused her. The boys quickly helped, while Estella washed vegetables as instructed.
Soon, the ingredients were ready, and the delicious aroma of grilling food filled the air. The children's eyes sparkled as they waited, and Roxanne hastened her work. She soon served a plate of mutton skewers.
Archie and Benny immediately offered one to Estella. She looked from the aromatic skewer to Roxanne, who was still cooking.
"Ms. Jarvis!" Estella called, offering the skewer to Roxanne with sparkling eyes. Roxanne's heart melted. "Thank you, Essie."
Only after feeding Roxanne did Estella take another skewer, devouring it happily. The four chatted and laughed together, the atmosphere harmonious.
Meanwhile, a black car slowly approached the field. Inside, a furious Aubree watched them through the window. Any stranger would think theyโre a family. That btch, Roxanne! How dare she say she has no intentions of returning to the Farwell family? It's impossible. If that's true, why is she treating Essie so well, knowing nothing of her biological mother?*
