Snapping out of her reverie, Roxanne tamped down her feelings and approached them. Estella was running a fever, but her eyes sparkled adorably. She had brightened considerably after spotting Roxanne and stared earnestly at her. Roxanne gave her a concerned look. Estella reached out, asking Roxanne to hold her. Seeing this, Roxanne glanced instinctively at Lucian. She was sick; why ask a stranger to hold her instead of her father? What would Lucian think?

To her surprise, Lucian calmly offered Estella to Roxanne. After a brief hesitation, Roxanne took Estella into her arms. The moment Roxanne touched the little girl, she felt the heat radiating from her small body. Estella felt like a furnace in her arms. Without hesitation, Roxanne pressed her cheek to Estella's to check her temperature. The coolness caused Estella's eyes to droop as she sighed softly.

"You're running a high fever," Roxanne commented, hugging Estella closer. Softly, she asked, "Essie, are you uncomfortable?" Estella nodded silently. Seeing the little girl's fever-reddened eyes, Roxanne's heart ached. Turning to Catalina, she asked, "Has she taken her medicine?"

Catalina regained her composure and nodded hastily. "Yes." Carefully observing Roxanne, she asked, "Mrs. Farwell, when did you return?" Catalina had worked for the Farwell family for some time, briefly serving Roxanne after she married into the family. She had respected Roxanne greatly. Therefore, she was surprised Roxanne had left without saying goodbye.

"I can't believe Mrs. Farwell is back!"

Roxanne was taken aback. Flashing a smile, she replied, "I've been back for some time. Please don't address me that way. I left the Farwell family six years ago."

Catalina's realization dawned. "You haven't changed, so I thought Forget it. I'll remember that next time." Roxanne nodded.

Catalina added, "Are you here to visit Ms. Estella?"

Roxanne explained, "We met at my patient's house. I heard Essie was sick and decided to visit."

Hearing this, Catalina felt a pang of regret. "That's good. Ms. Estella will surely get better quickly with your company," she murmured.

Roxanne assumed Catalina referred to her medical expertise. Chuckling, she inclined her head. "Don't worry. I'll help if Essie needs me."

Catalina was puzzled.

Why is Ms. Jarvis acting so formal? Ms. Estella is her daughter. Shouldn't she be caring for her sick daughter? Ms. Estella would feel better with her mother. Ms. Jarvis treated my headaches before; she's a great doctor and could easily treat Estella's fever.

A wave of regret washed over Catalina as she recalled Roxanne's previous presence. Ms. Jarvis is pretty and smart, but she never acted superior. She treated us like family.

She couldn't help comparing Roxanne to Aubree. Ms. Pearson often arrives unannounced. When Mr. Farwell is absent, she acts like the lady of the house, ordering us around arrogantly. She shows no respect. I don't understand what Mr. Farwell sees in herโ€ฆ

Lucian fell into a brief daze at Catalina's address to Roxanne. However, Roxanne's correction complicated his feelings.
