Chapter 973: Deal With the Marriage Contract

Archie and Benny had only called Sonya "Grandma" out of politeness. Immediately, Sonya snapped, "You two don't belong to the Farwell family, so you shouldn't call me that! If you want to see your grandmother, ask your mother to take you to her!"

She turned to leave, but Archie and Benny, dejected and pained by her rejection, were spurred into action by Estella's escalating cries. They stood before Sonya, gritting their teeth.

Sonya, irritated by their persistence, furrowed her brows. "We won't call you Grandma anymore," the boys said stubbornly, "but Essie clearly doesn't want to leave. You can't force her! You know her situation. She can't continue crying like this!"

"Mind your own business! I will naturally take care of my granddaughter," Sonya replied icily, then turning to Roxanne, she added, "Control your sons. Tell them to stop blocking my way!"

Roxanne, witnessing the confrontation, felt a pang of sympathy. Seeing Estella's distress was heartbreaking, but as Sonya was Estella's grandmother, Roxanne hesitated to intervene. However, Archie and Benny's intervention changed her mind. She couldn't stand idly by, especially considering how Sonya was treating Estella. She imagined how hurt Archie and Benny would be if they knew their biological grandmother was refusing to acknowledge them.

"Although Archie and Benny aren't part of the Farwell family, they're just as concerned about Essie as you are!" Roxanne stepped forward, pulling her sons behind her. "Essie is crying so badly. If you truly care about her, have you considered the consequences of her crying like this?"

Sonya, momentarily speechless, finally replied impatiently, "I will bear responsibility for my own granddaughter. There's no need for you to worry!" Glowering at Roxanne, she added, "Nothing will happen to Essie if you stay away from her!"

Estella's cries, punctuated by gasps for air, pierced the air. Roxanne's heart ached; she longed to comfort her, but knew it was impossible.

Sonya glanced at Archie and Benny. "Ms. Jarvis, you're a mother of two. Lucian already has Essie and will be marrying Aubree in the future. I hope you have some self-respect."

Roxanne, Archie, and Benny froze. Lucian had mentioned pursuing Roxanne and resolving the issue with Aubree, but they hadn't discussed the marriage contract. Sonya's words brought the almost-forgotten matter crashing back. Stunned, they could only watch as Sonya, with a final icy glare, strode to her car, Estella's muffled cries fading as the door slammed shut.

By the time Roxanne recovered, Sonya's car had disappeared.
