Chapter 987: Look After You
Sonya was a woman of her word. That afternoon, Aubree arrived at the Farwell residence. Catalina, viewing Aubree on the video intercom, admitted her, remembering Lucianโs instructions.
Aubree carried a thermal container and headed straight for the stairs. Catalina called out, intending to inform her that Lucian was working and should not be disturbed. To Catalina's surprise, Aubree proceeded upstairs without acknowledging her. Watching Aubree go, Catalina's thoughts drifted to Roxanne. It's just as I thought. Ms. Jarvis is much nicer, she sighed, hurrying after Aubree.
Aubree reached Lucian's bedroom door, raised her hand to knock, then entered without waiting for a response. "Lucianโ" she began, stopping abruptly at the sight of him working on the bed. "Why are you up? Mrs. Farwell said you were resting."
Lucian, reviewing emails, looked up impatiently. "Even if I were resting, does that entitle you to barge in?"
His retort silenced her. Finally, she explained guiltily, "I was worried after hearing Mrs. Farwell say you weren't feeling well." She composed herself, approaching with a concerned expression and opening the thermal container. "I made this broth this afternoon. Hurry and try it."
She offered him some, but he merely replied, "No, thanks. I've already had lunch."
She persisted. "It's just a little broth; it won't fill you up. My mother makes it for me when I'm sick."
A hint of displeasure crossed his eyes as he regarded the broth she placed before him. Catalina, having followed Aubree, cleared her throat. "Ms. Pearson, Mr. Farwell has a fever; it's best he avoids anything oily."
Aubree froze. Lucian gazed at her impassively, then brushed her hands away. "I appreciate the thought, but it's unnecessary."
Aubree looked upset. "My fault for not considering that. How about I help with dinner? I'll make you risotto."
"Catalina will take care of it. You don't need to trouble yourself," he replied flatly.
Aubree feigned helplessness. "Butโฆ Mrs. Farwell asked me to look after you."
His expression darkened at the mention of his mother. Sensing the shift in atmosphere, she fell silent.
"I'm tired. I'm going to nap," Lucian announced, setting aside his phone and sweeping his gaze over the women.
"Ms. Pearson, may I escort you downstairs to rest?" Catalina offered quickly.
Aubree was reluctant to leave, but Lucian lay down, turning his back, clearly unwilling to continue the conversation. Aubree followed Catalina from the room. Outside, Catalina respectfully stepped aside, allowing Aubree to precede her. As Aubree passed, Catalina sensed a displeased glance.
