Chapter 990: Leave Essie To Me

“Lucian…” Aubree’s expression tightened at his appearance. “Why are you here? I thought you were indisposed, so I came to fetch Essie.”

Lucian regarded her calmly. “I don’t recall asking you to do so.” The onlookers’ expressions shifted upon hearing his words.

Pippa felt a surge of apprehension. While aware of Aubree and Lucian’s history, and knowing Aubree wouldn't harm Estella, Estella wasn't an ordinary child. Allowing Estella to leave unknowingly could have dire consequences. She breathed a sigh of relief; Essie hadn’t gone with her.

Relief also washed over Archie and Benny. They found Aubree's arrival to collect Estella peculiar, especially considering their father’s awareness of the girl’s dislike for her. It was a ploy! “Come here, Essie,” Lucian offered a hand to his daughter.

Shaken, Estella sniffed and took her father’s hand. Lucian turned to Archie and Benny. Before he could speak, a strong gust of wind blew, causing him to cough. He covered his mouth, “I won’t be waiting with you today. Will you boys be alright?” Normally, Lucian would have stayed until Lysa arrived, but he lacked the energy.

Archie and Benny nodded obediently. “We’ll be fine!” They understood their father’s illness.

Pippa, nearby, hastened to reassure him, “Don’t worry, Mr. Farwell. I’ll watch over the boys.”

Lucian nodded and left with Estella. Aware of his illness, Estella went willingly.

Aubree, meanwhile, felt a mixture of guilt and irritation at Lucian’s unexpected arrival. He’d humiliated her publicly. Yet, she stubbornly followed.

After Lucian secured Estella in the car, he saw Aubree trailing them in her own vehicle. Displeasure flickered in Lucian’s eyes.

“Are you okay, Daddy?” Estella’s concern was evident in her red-rimmed eyes.

Lucian patted her head. “I’m feeling much better.” He frowned apologetically. “I didn’t ask Ms. Pearson to pick you up.”

Estella grinned. “Yup, I know!”

Lucian remained silent for the rest of the journey. Upon arrival at the Farwell residence, Estella quickly exited the car and took her father’s hand, foregoing his assistance.

As they approached the mansion, a car door slammed shut behind them. Estella turned to see Aubree exiting her car and approaching them.

“Daddy…” Estella instinctively drew closer to her father.

Lucian squeezed her hand reassuringly. “Just ignore her.”

Estella remained silent by his side.

Aubree approached, smiling warmly at Estella, a gesture that only served to make the girl cling tighter to her father. “Lucian, you must be exhausted. Leave Essie to me.”
