Listen to this chapter:

In the People's Repair Shop's underground stone building, a dozen or so mercenaries knelt. Jake Graham, the so-called "Boss and King of the Underworld," knelt among them, shivering. His position demanded connections with influential men; otherwise, he would have been eliminated long ago. Yet, the imposing underworld boss now resembled an obedient dog.

Soon, a man in a black vest returned with documents. Seeing his shivering boss, he staggered and dropped the papers. James glanced at Henry, who retrieved the scattered documents and handed them to James.

James carefully read the reports. As expected from Jake Graham's intelligence network, even information withheld from official channels was meticulously recorded. "Ten years ago, the Cadens were Cansington's most powerful family, having migrated from the Capital. Thirty years ago, Thomas Caden arrived in Cansington and established the family."

James frowned. The Cadens' origin from the Capital was news to him. He hadn't learned this from his grandfather. He looked at Henry, who, upon seeing James's expression and the documents, immediately knelt. Scarlett, seeing Henry, panicked and knelt as well.

"Henry, how could you miss something so simple?" James asked.

"J-James" Henry stammered, his forehead beaded with sweat. "I-I don't know. I searched official channels. If I couldn't find it, someone must have erased the data."

James waved dismissively. "Rise. Don't ever kneel. You're like a brother to me."

"Yes," Henry replied, rising and wiping his brow. Though James treated him as a brother, Henry knew his place as a subordinate.

James continued reading. The Cadens possessed a treasured scroll, "Moonlit Flowers on Cliffside's Edge," passed down for millennia and rumored to hold a great secret and immense value. This attracted the attention of powerful men, leading to a conspiracy.

Trent Xavier of the Great Four in Cansington persuaded his sister, Rowena, to marry Nicholas Caden, Thomas's son. A year later, Rowena framed Thomas, destroying his relationship with Nicholas. She then falsely accused Nicholas of dereliction of duty and corruption, causing him to suffer a fatal heart attack after which she pushed him from a third-story window.

That night, twenty-five men from the Great Four gathered at Flora Lakeside near the Cadens' villa, taking dozens of the family captive and interrogating them about the scroll. Underworld forces, including Dawson, Black Wind Xander, Nine Fingers, and others, guarded the villa. The mastermind and the scroll's location remained unknown.

Ten years later, Trent Xavier and Warren Xavier (head of one of the Great Four) were dead, as were the leaders of the other Great Four factions, and Xander Lawrence. Rumors circulated that a Caden rescued from a fire ten years prior by Thea Callahan had returned for vengeance. The identity of a ghost-masked man, publicly executed by the Blithe King, remained unknown.

James sighed. The detailed information revealed previously unknown facts, such as the Cadens' origins, which neither his grandfather nor Henry had uncovered.
