Henry didn't know where James had learned his medical skills, but he himself had acquired some from James. Meanwhile, James entered the hospital and went to Rowena's ward. He had slashed Rowena's face, and her wrist was severed. Though her wrist was reattached, she remained hospitalized, living miserably since discovering the identity of the ghost-masked man.
Days crawled by, each filled with anxiety and unease. She was on the verge of a mental breakdown.
Tap! Tap! Tap! The sound of leather shoes echoed down the hospital corridor in the dead of night. James arrived at Rowena's ward, pushed open the door, and entered.
"Who? Who…"
Rowena, haunted by nightmares for days and at her breaking point, heard the sound and sensed an intruder. She hurriedly pulled her quilt around her, backing frantically into a corner. Fear etched her face as she watched the door vigilantly.
James switched on the lights, illuminating the dark ward. Rowena trembled, nearly falling off the bed at the sight of him.
James approached, pulled up a chair, and sat beside the bed. He glanced at Rowena, whose terror mirrored that of someone who had seen a devil.
"Co-commander…" she began, her voice trembling.
"Don't be nervous. I'm not here to kill you. Not yet. I have some questions."
"G-go ahead," she stammered, shivering as if she had seen a ghost. She completely covered herself, revealing only her head, and clutched her quilt tightly.
"Ten years ago, who else went to the Cadens' villa besides the Great Four?"
"I-I don't know."
"What?" James's face darkened.
A sudden chill swept over Rowena, goosebumps erupting across her skin.
"You don't know?"
"I-I really don't know!" she cried, her fear palpable. Her strong demeanor vanished, replaced by the whimpers of a frightened child. "I really don't know who was there! E-everything was arranged by Trent!"
"Did Trent ever mention to whom he gave the Moonlit Flowers on Cliffside's Edge in the capital?"
"N-never! He never told me anything about it. However… when my father died, he returned immediately to the capital. After that trip, he learned that Thea had saved someone from the fire at the Cadens' villa ten years ago, so he interrogated her about the survivor's identity."
James, furious at his lack of progress, clenched his fists. Rowena sensed a murderous aura. She knew it was the end, yet felt a strange relief; her suffering would soon cease. She closed her eyes, awaiting her fate.
However, James didn't move. He unclenched his fists, stood, and left.
"Rowena, your month is almost up. Find out who possesses the Moonlit Flowers on Cliffside's Edge as soon as possible. And don't even think about killing yourself. Otherwise, the hundreds of people in the Xaviers will be buried with you."
James left. Rowena remained paralyzed by fear. Moments later, she seemed to descend into madness, slapping and cursing herself.
"Rowena, why did you do it? Why did you have to touch the Cadens? You deserve it! Trent, you've led the family into the flames of hell. How could you go first and leave the Xaviers to suffer?"
Her cries echoed through the ward. Her wails filled the room with anguish.
