Chapter 176

Henry slept in a room at Common Clinic. Sensing movement, he woke and switched on the lights. He saw James entering.

"James, what brings you here?"

James looked at Henry dejectedly. "I fought with Thea."

"Huh? What happened?" Henry asked, confused.

James sighed. Henry offered him a cigarette, which James accepted and Henry lit. James took a deep breath. "Nothing much. Just a misunderstanding." He recounted the events to Henry.

Henry burst out laughing. "That's hilarious! The General of the Southern Plains driven out of the Callahans' residence?"

Noticing James' grim expression, Henry stopped laughing. He said seriously, "James, I can help if you need someone killed. But this? I'm helpless."

James waved him off. "I'm not expecting your help. I'll talk to Thea when she calms down."

"You'll be sleeping here tonight?"

"Yes. We'll have a drink."

They left Common Clinic and went to a roadside barbecue restaurant, ordering lamb kebabs and beer. Meanwhile, at the Callahans' house, Thea cried herself to sleep.

She woke early the next day. Having just taken over Eternality Group, she had important matters to attend to, including preparing documents to apply for a space at the Trade City Center. The Transgenerational City Center wasn't open for business investment yet; even large corporations that had secured spaces did so narrowly. Smaller businesses had to wait for the official opening to apply.

Gladys approached Thea as she left her room. "Get your divorce from James finalized. I've found you a wealthy young man. If you don't like him, find your own. Bryan from The Gourmand is a good choice."

"We'll see," Thea replied vaguely. She wanted to go to the company, but first needed to go to the Department of Civil Affairs to handle the divorce. On the way, she called James.

He was still asleep from the previous night's heavy drinking when his phone rang. He groggily answered, "W-Who's this?"

"Nine o'clock. Department of Civil Affairs."

Recognizing Thea's voice, James woke up. "Thea…"

The call ended. James sat dazed for a few seconds before drop-kicking Henry, who was still asleep.

Henry woke with a start. "What's wrong, James?"

"Thea wants to meet me at the Department of Civil Affairs at nine. What should I do?" [The sentence containing the website information has been removed]

Henry was at a loss. "James, how should I know? I've never been in a relationship, let alone married or divorced."

"Think of something."

Henry looked perplexed. "I-I'll call Scarlett. She's a woman; she might know."

James looked at the time. It was almost eight o'clock. He kicked Henry. "Why are you dawdling? Call her!"

Henry called Scarlett, who had worked late at Transgenerational Group and had just arrived at the office. After hearing Henry's story, she said she couldn't help. "Henry, I've never been in a relationship. I don't understand marriage and divorce."

Both Scarlett and Henry were unhelpful. Henry told James, "J-James, Scarlett doesn't know either."

"What do we do now?" James worried.

An idea struck Henry. "W-What if we call the Blithe King? We'll ask him to delay the divorce proceedings for a few days."

"Not bad," James said, brightening. He immediately called the Blithe King.

The Blithe King, busy with important matters, answered with a dark expression. "What do you want, Black Dragon?"

James laughed. "Nothing much. Need a little help. My wife wants a divorce. Could you delay the proceedings?"

The Blithe King glared. He was the general of the Western border and commander-in-chief of five armies, and now he was being asked to meddle in a couple's divorce?
