Listen to this chapter:

James's loud voice stunned the angry crowd outside Eternality Hospital, instantly silencing their boisterous shouts. He pointed at a man with a swollen face. "You, come here and sit. I'll take your pulse."

The man sat, immediately launching into a rant. "You're compensating me no matter what. I'm a corporate manager, earning fifty thousand a month! This illness cost me my job, and I won't settle for less than a few hundred thousand."

James glared at him, his penetrating stare causing the man to shrink. "I'd be fine with a few thousand," he muttered.

"Show me your arm."

The man obeyed. James took his pulse. "So, you came to Eternality Hospital because of skin irritation? What does this have to do with us?"

He slammed the table. "You must have eaten something that triggered the swelling! Why are you blaming us?"

"Yes, I have a skin allergy," the man retorted, "but it got worse after taking your medicine! Look at my face—it's like I've been stung by a bee!"

"I'll prescribe something. If it's still swollen tomorrow, come back." James wrote a prescription, tossing it to the man. "If you don't trust us, get a second opinion. Next!"

The man stared, dumbfounded. He'd come for compensation, only to be dismissed with a prescription.

"What are you standing there for?" James scolded. "Get lost! I have other patients."

"Fine. We'll meet in court if my face is still swollen tomorrow," the man spat, leaving angrily.

Another man, with a menacing look, immediately took the vacant seat. "After eating your medicine" he began.

"I'm the doctor. Shut up!" James glared, shouting, "Extend your arms!" Intimidated, the man obeyed.

James took his pulse, then chuckled coldly. "Diarrhea? That's normal with a weak stomach. How can you blame us? Forget it. I'll prescribe something for free. Take it and come back if you're still unwell."

The man was stunned. He hadn't even explained his symptoms, yet James had diagnosed him in seconds. "W-will this really work?"

James swiftly wrote and tossed another prescription. "Take this and get lost. Next!"

Before the man could react, a healthy-looking man sat down and extended his arm. James stood and kicked him. "Here to cause trouble, are you? You haven't taken any medicine this week, and you're perfectly fine! Show up again, and things won't end well."

The man, a reporter, had been sent to test James's abilities. Many reporters had gathered outside Eternality Hospital, suspicious of James's seemingly uncanny diagnostic skills. They were surprised—and the crowd erupted in laughter—when James exposed their ploy.

"Who's that guy? He's a badass!"

"I know him. He's James, the son-in-law of the Callahans and Thea Callahan's husband. Thea was once the ugliest woman in Cansington; James's treatment made her the most beautiful."
