Yosef, Charlie, and seven or eight gangsters were taken away.
"James," a policeman said, before leaving. He looked at James respectfully and asked, "May I ask how you would like us to investigate the Callahans?"
This policeman, Wayne Jackson, headed the Commercial Crime Investigation Department. He knew James's identity as the Callahans' son-in-law, but not his other identities. He understood that an ordinary person wouldn't receive such respectful treatment from a subordinate of the Blithe King. Unsure how to proceed with the investigation, he sought guidance.
"After the investigation," James said, "those who deserve jail should go to jail, and those who deserve fines should be fined."
"Understood," Wayne nodded. "I've troubled you again, General Highsmith. I'll treat you to dinner another day."
James waved him off and left.
Meanwhile, at the Callahans' villa, several cars, pickup trucks, and a brand-new, limited-edition Firarre were parked outside. Tommy, noticing this through the villa's surveillance, went to investigate. He saw people unloading boxes from the trucks.
"Who are you people?" he asked, approaching them.
A well-dressed middle-aged man stepped forward. "Is this the Callahans' residence?"
"Yes," Tommy replied, puzzled. "Why?"
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Tommy," the man said. "We're here to deliver betrothal gifts."
"Betrothal gifts?" Tommy was shocked. He immediately invited them inside. "Grandpa, there are people here with betrothal gifts!" he shouted.
Lex was surprised. The middle-aged man explained, "Mr. Yates requested we deliver these." He then read from a list: "Eighty-eight million eight hundred thousand dollars in cash; a limited-edition Firarre worth twenty-eight million dollars; a twenty-two-thousand-square-meter villa in the Goodview Villa District worth three hundred and eighty million dollars; jewelry worth fifty-eight million dollars; and clothes worth eighty million eight hundred thousand dollars."
Several people carried in boxes containing cash, jewelry, clothes, etc. The middle-aged man approached Lex, handing him the list. "Mr. Callahan, please check the gifts and sign the delivery order if everything is correct."
He instructed his team to open the boxes, revealing the contents. Lex, his family utterly shocked, could only stare.
Betrothal gifts? For which Callahan woman? And from whom?
Lex looked at the middle-aged man, who said, "There's a box containing eighty-eight million eight hundred thousand dollars in cash. The other ten boxes hold the jewelry, clothes, villa key, and car keys. Everything is accounted for."
"Excuse me," Lex asked, "which Callahan woman is this for, and which gentleman sent these gifts?"
"I don't know," the middle-aged man replied. "I'm only responsible for delivery."
Lex stiffly signed the delivery order, and the team left.
