Benjamin was about to speak when Gladys interrupted.
"Oh, now you want to talk? What were you doing earlier, cowering in the corner? It's so embarrassing being your wife. I want a divorce!"
A crowd gathered at The Gourmand's entrance, but none were interested in the family's argument. Their attention remained fixed on the Blithe King's upcoming succession ceremony.
"The Blithe King's succession ceremony is in five days," one person said.
"Oh, yes. I heard it'll be held in Cansington's military region. Apparently, it's open to the public, but only the most powerful and influential will receive invitations."
"That's what I heard too! Only the wealthiest and most powerful upper-class families will attend."
"Ah, I bet only celebrities will get invited." The conversation buzzed around the Blithe King.
James, however, sat outside The Gourmand, smoking a cigarette.
Gladys, having thoroughly embarrassed herself to save face—even kneeling to Belinda!—had calmed somewhat. Then, a voice called out.
"Gladys, is that you? You're here too!"
Benjamin and his family were waiting in line to enter The Gourmand when a woman approached, accompanied by a man in a suit and a young couple.
"Felicia?" Gladys asked, surprised to see her former classmate, who still looked young. "Are you Felicia Lockwood? The one who sat behind me in class?"
"That's right! Gladys, it's really you! I haven't seen you in years! My, your social standing seems to have deteriorated, hasn't it? You were the school belle! I thought you'd marry rich! Who knew you'd end up like this, waiting in line at The Gourmand?"
Felicia gestured to her husband. "This is my husband, chairman of Lucky Logistics. He's worth tens of millions. What about you? Where's your husband? What does he do?"
Knowing Felicia was showing off, Gladys proudly presented Benjamin. "This is my husband, Benjamin Callahan, a ten-percent shareholder of Eternality. The Callahans are worth billions; my husband is worth millions."
Gladys, basking in her newfound social standing thanks to Benjamin's Eternality shares, felt a surge of glee. Felicia looked surprised.
"Wow, really? Eternality's shareholder? Then why are you waiting in line? Aren't you a member? Oh, I know. You were just boasting, weren't you?"
Felicia's husband interrupted, "Fel, I have a lot of work today. Let's go."
Felicia's earlier surprise turned to suspicion, realizing Gladys had been boasting. Years ago, Gladys had overshadowed Felicia, but now Felicia sought to reclaim the upper hand.
"This is my daughter," Felicia announced, presenting a young woman. "You know the Wilsons, right? She married a Wilson!"
Felicia’s son-in-law added smugly, putting an arm around his wife, "The Wilsons are doing okay. We're worth tens of billions and rank third among the Great Four in Cansington."
Gladys was speechless, glaring at her daughter, Thea, who hung her head. Felicia pressed her advantage.
"Gladys, this must be your daughter! Thea, right? We saw you on the news. Oh, I heard your daughter married… someone… who cooks and picks her up from work on an electric motorcycle. And she's disfigured again, isn't she?"
Felicia continued to belittle Thea and James, while praising her own family. David and Alyssa remained silent. Gladys, deeply embarrassed, glared at James, who continued smoking unconcerned. She blamed him for her humiliation.
James, however, decided to act. He called Henry, instructing him to reserve the Diamond Room at The Gourmand under Thea's name. Then, he approached Gladys.
"Mom, didn't we make a reservation for the Diamond Room? Let's go in."
Felicia scoffed, "Haha, the Diamond Room? What a joke!"
Her husband echoed her disbelief, "Do you even know what the Diamond Room is? You're taking this ruse too far."
Chad Wilson sneered, "Even as a Wilson, I'm only a Silver member, entitled to the Silver Room. And you have a reservation for the Diamond Room? In Cansington, only a handful of people have access to the Diamond Room…"
