Chapter 107

Marianne's voice cut through the tension. "Miss Hayes, do you understand the significance of Timeless Treasures? Tossing its name around so casually—aren't you concerned about your standing in Lyhaton?"

Another relative immediately interjected, "Since you claim ties to Timeless Treasures, where's the proof? Until then, why should we believe you?"

"Buying a fake and trying to pass it off as genuine, then dragging Timeless Treasures into your lies—have you no shame?" someone added sharply.

Timeless Treasures was no ordinary establishment. Its reputation was legendary. Despite changing ownership, the mystery surrounding its proprietor only enhanced its prestige. Even the Antique Association president deferred to them, a testament to their power in Lyhaton.

Another voice sneered, "Miss Hayes, if you're fabricating a story, at least make it plausible. Do you think we're that gullible?"

Seated at the table's head, Everett gripped his cane so tightly his knuckles whitened. The intricate carving seemed to gleam under his strained grip. "Vivienne," he said, his voice heavy with unease, "it doesn't matter if the item is real or fake. I won't hold it against you. But please, tell the truth."

This birthday celebration had devolved into a debacle. Diana had fanned the flames, and the situation spiraled beyond his control. If he let it slide, the Mitchell family would become the laughingstock of Lyhaton.

Weighing his options, Everett could only hope Vivienne would admit her mistake, even if it meant humiliation.

Just as Vivienne looked up to respond, Warren's voice cut through the tension. "Today is my grandfather's birthday. Regardless of the item's authenticity, you've disrupted his celebration. You owe him an apology!"

His commanding tone was undeniable, yet Vivienne met his gaze unflinchingly. A faint, mocking smile played on her lips. "I've disrupted his celebration? Warren, just because you ignore the truth doesn't mean the rest of us are blind!"

Uneasy glances were exchanged. The root of the chaos—the Mitchells' relentless accusations—was clear to everyone. Yet, their status in Lyhaton kept most guests silent.

Xavier hesitantly suggested, "Miss Hayes, if you're affiliated with Timeless Treasures, couldn't you provide some proof?" Surely, evidence would settle the matter.

To everyone's shock, Vivienne responded with calm indifference, "I don't have it."

Xavier blinked, startled. He couldn't comprehend her unwavering confidence in such a precarious situation.

An uneasy silence stretched until a commanding voice shattered it. "The Mitchell family home appears to be filled with vigor today."

Heads turned as an elderly man in a neatly pressed gray suit entered. He rolled a bead bracelet between his fingers, his right hand tucked behind his back. His slightly gray hair and polite smile softened his features, but sharp eyes betrayed his keen intellect.

Xavier rose respectfully. "It's an honor to have you here."

Someone whispered, "Who is that man?"

The hushed reply came, "You don't know Steve, the renowned antique collector? He's the consultant for Timeless Treasures!"

The questioner gasped, "Timeless Treasures?"

Uneasy glances were exchanged, a flicker of pity crossing their faces. Vivienne's ordeal, it seemed, was far from over.
