Chapter 115

These matters not only puzzled Harrison but also weighed heavily on his mind. Though he knew little of Steve personally, the rumors painted a vivid picture. Steve's background remained a mystery, yet his influence was undeniable, making him a figure no one dared to cross. How else could one man maintain such order in Lyhaton's competitive collectibles business?

Harrison, however, couldn't shake his own questions. When had Vivienne come to know Steve? Had she been keeping secrets?

He sighed deeply. "It's getting late. Let's call it a night."

Without a glance, he ascended the stairs, his steps heavy with fatigue.

Vivienne, reaching the front gate, was surprised to find Derek leaning against his car. He looked up, the cold sharpness in his eyes softening as they met hers, replaced by a warm smile.

What could she say about this man? He always seemed to appear, unfailingly supportive yet never pressuring, understanding her guarded nature and respecting her space.

As she moved toward him, a sharp voice interrupted. "Miss Hayes."

Vivienne's brows furrowed at Natalie's voice, but she continued walking. Natalie hurried to catch up, grabbing Vivienne's wrist. "Did you not hear me?"

Vivienne paused, her gaze cool and composed. "I don't waste time on meaningless conversations," she replied, a faint smile playing on her lips. "In fact, congratulations on your engagement, Miss Natalie."

The remark stung. Natalie's face darkened, her eyes blazing. "Who do you think you are to mock me?"

Vivienne tilted her head, her smile deepening. "Do I need a title?" she responded coolly, her tone distant, and turned to leave.

Natalie stepped into Vivienne's path. "Aren't you curious why Everett gave you those shares?"

Before Vivienne could reply, Natalie pressed on, her voice laced with malice. "Everett wants to bind your interests with theirs. He fears your ambition might prompt retaliation against the Mitchell family, and he's worried news of my engagement to Warren could damage the company's image. He wants you at the annual meeting, as a shareholder, to silence gossip."

Vivienne's face remained impassive. She'd already suspected as much. Yet, hearing it aloud felt like a sharp needle. It made her wonder how much of Everett's kindness had been genuine, and how much calculated.

"Vivienne, you don't believe Everett truly cares, do you?" Natalie's satisfaction was evident as she watched Vivienne's gaze darken. "If you weren't useful, would they have tolerated you clinging to Warren for three years? Without your dedication, would he have given you that bracelet? Only someone starved for affection would cling to scraps of kindness like treasures. Honestly, watching you grasp at such hollow gestures... I almost pity you."

"And what about you?" Vivienne asked, her voice cutting, her eyes locking onto Natalie's with quiet defiance.
