Chapter 152

The journalist wondered if the woman was insane. She was seriously considering a defamation lawsuit! Did she not understand the gravity of her situation? How could she be so defiant?

The media's probing intensified. "How can you claim innocence without proof?" "Why were you detained with the suspects if you're innocent?"

With a small smile, Vivienne replied, "Perhaps the motives of the person who tipped off the police deserve scrutiny."

As the situation escalated, Officer Jack rushed to the scene. He surveyed the gathering before pulling Walter aside. He whispered, "Sir, the two suspects are ready to confess."

"I'm on my way," Walter replied, starting to leave.

But Jack held his arm, glancing significantly at Vivienne. "It seems Miss Hayes should accompany us."

"What are you implying?" Walter's expression hardened, his gaze intense.

Jack stammered, "The suspects claim Miss Hayes was…working with them."

All eyes, filled with ridicule and scorn, turned to Vivienne, waiting for her response.

Vivienne's gaze hardened, a trace of coldness in her eyes. "Since I'm not going anywhere, let's discuss this inside."

Passing Milo, she murmured, "Send a message to your boss for me…"

"Why not tell him yourself?" Milo suggested, subtly nodding toward someone behind Vivienne.

Turning, Vivienne saw Derek approaching, clad in a sharp black suit. His assertive walk and commanding presence marked him as a man in control.

He paused before her, offering his hand. "Care to join me inside?"

Locking eyes with him, her expression softened. "I'd love to."

Their fingers intertwined, sparking unexpected warmth in her chest.

At the Mitchell residence, Diana discovered a trending social media topic and rushed to the card room. "Mom, you have to see this! Vivienne's trending!"

Melissa's smile faded at the mention of Vivienne's name. "Please, let's not talk about her. Her name irritates me!"

The ladies exchanged knowing glances, their faces a mix of emotions.

Despite Melissa's attempts to dismiss Vivienne from their thoughts, everyone remembered Vivienne's role in saving the Mitchell family from social ruin. Now, as Lyhaton's top socialites, the guests kept their opinions to themselves.

"It's been ages since I heard that name."

"Right, she seemed to disappear after her split from Warren."

"People should be grateful. Without Warren's intervention, who knows her fate? Yet, despite his acceptance of her background, she scorned him. After experiencing a better life, she seemed to forget her roots."

Though unintentional, the last remark resonated deeply. Melissa perceived it as a slight against her family, a subtle mockery.

The mood at the card table grew tense, and Melissa's interest in the game waned. After finishing her hand, she quickly dismissed her guests.
