Chapter 234: I’m Willing To Meet Any Conditions
Hearing her husband’s words, Melissa’s sobs subsided, though her breathing remained ragged. Her tear-swollen eyes glanced up at Harrison. “Do you really think she’ll agree?”
They both knew that after their falling out at Mitchell Group’s anniversary event, Vivienne’s trust in them was shattered. Given everything—Warren’s betrayal and Diana’s subsequent actions—why would Vivienne simply drop the lawsuit? She wasn’t one to back down easily.
“Whether she agrees or not, we have to try,” Harrison replied, his tone firm yet sincere. His eyes met Melissa’s. After years of sharing a life with her, how could he not understand her thoughts? He paused, his expression softening. “You need to come with me.”
Melissa hesitated, ready to protest, but Harrison raised a hand, silencing her. “I know you have reservations about Vivienne, but this is bigger than your feelings. It’s about the Mitchell family, about Diana. Can you really sit back and let Diana go to jail?”
Melissa fell silent, her breath shaky. Slowly, she closed her eyes, sighed, and whispered, “Alright.”
Harrison gave her hand a gentle squeeze, attempting to soothe her frayed nerves. “Then I’ll call Vivienne.”
Vivienne was surprised to receive a call from Harrison. Everett had three sons, but none had particularly distinguished themselves—until Warren, who used his wit and cunning to advance within the family. It was thanks to Melissa’s foresight in keeping Warren close to Everett that Harrison had gained any standing within the family.
“Miss Hayes, this is Warren’s father,” Harrison began, his voice smooth yet urgent. “I was wondering if you’d have some time after work. I’d like to speak with you privately.”
Although Harrison wasn't known for shouldering great responsibilities, as a father, husband, and elder, his reputation remained untarnished.
Vivienne raised an eyebrow, her gaze cool and unimpressed. “Why not just say it over the phone?” The Mitchell family repulsed her; she would do anything to avoid facing them in person.
Harrison, though unprepared for her blunt refusal, remained composed. He glanced at Melissa, then spoke steadily. “Diana was indulged as a child, making her headstrong and thoughtless. She’s often been disrespectful, and as her parents, we failed to correct her. This caused the harm she inflicted upon you, and for that, we sincerely apologize.”
The sincerity in Harrison’s words prompted Vivienne to listen further.
“The main reason I’m calling,” he continued, his voice unwavering, “is to ask if you would consider withdrawing the lawsuit.”
A frosty glint flickered in Vivienne’s eyes. Her lips curled into a cold smile. “Withdraw the lawsuit? My time is far too valuable to waste on this little game.” Her casual tone masked venomous disdain. Melissa felt her temper flare, but Harrison’s sharp look instantly silenced her. They were asking for a favor; they needed to swallow their pride, however bitter.
After a pause, Harrison leaned forward, his tone resolute. “Diana is in the wrong. If you agree to withdraw the lawsuit, I’m willing to meet any conditions you set.”
