Chapter 296: It’s Your Turn
In that instant, all traces of Diana’s previous pride vanished. Vivienne fixed Natalie with a chilling look. “Your turn, Miss Chambers.”
Natalie’s response was a fierce glare, her eyes burning with a fury that seemed to wish Vivienne a horrible death. “Perhaps you’re too modest for this, Miss Chambers. Shall we proceed with the next part?” Despite her calm tone, Vivienne’s words made Natalie’s skin crawl with unease.
Looking up sharply, Natalie met Vivienne’s chilling gaze and felt a sudden tension at her temples. Calmly, Vivienne said, “You remember the stakes, right? You owe us a pole dance in the square for losing.”
A wave of cold fear washed over Natalie, draining the color from her face. Natalie’s fragile act disappeared; her eyes were now sharp and dangerous, like a snake ready to strike.
Vivienne’s beauty was chilling; her face, a sculpture of cold, flawless jade. Her subtly curved eyebrows enhanced her enigmatic allure. Her expression hovered between a mocking smile and a sneer, creating an intriguing yet intimidating presence. Vivienne’s striking appearance was undeniable, her dignified demeanor impossible to overlook.
Natalie had felt a deep-seated resentment and insecurity when she first heard of Warren keeping such a stunning woman close by. Knowing the fickle nature of men, Natalie pondered how one could remain indifferent to such beauty day in, day out. When she finally met Vivienne after returning from overseas, the inherent grace Vivienne carried only intensified Natalie’s feelings of inferiority.
Despite her elegant outfit, Natalie couldn’t shake the feeling of being outmatched as she faced Vivienne. Vivienne effortlessly commanded the room’s attention and admiration. Natalie had thought that by wooing Warren away, she could diminish Vivienne’s influence, yet the reality proved quite contrary.
In truth, ever since Vivienne’s departure from the Mitchell family, Natalie felt everything slipping through her fingers. Natalie attempted to stand and confront Vivienne, only to find herself immobilized by Vivienne’s firm hold on her shoulder.
“Why? Unwilling to dance?” Vivienne raised an eyebrow and offered a sly half-smile. “Perhaps we should try something different?” The casual tone in her voice made Natalie’s frown deepen. As she stared at Vivienne, Natalie’s face was a transparent display of her loathing and anger.
“Why not pick any bar in Lyhaton and grace it with your performance for an evening, Miss Chambers?” Vivienne suggested with fake innocence. “You’re from a family known for its artistic prowess and have once captivated the city with your dance. It would be a pleasure to witness it again.”
At her suggestion, the surrounding crowd broke into enthusiastic applause. The prospect of seeing a lady of Natalie’s stature dance was indeed a spectacle for them.
“How dare you treat me this way, Vivienne Hayes! The Chambers family, along with Warren, will not stand for this,” Natalie retorted.
Vivienne’s reply was laden with disdain. “Do you honestly believe that I fear the Chambers or Mitchell families?”
Before she could continue, a stern voice cut through the crowd, saying, “Vivienne, haven’t you caused enough trouble?”
