Chapter 100
Jonathan, still starstruck despite their long acquaintance, breathed a sigh of relief. "Gosh, I'm so glad you're here, Paisley. We're counting on you to save Mr. Vanderbilt." Finally, his friend had a chance.
Reginald’s jaw dropped. "Mr. Walsh, you know each other?"
Jonathan nodded, gesturing to Paisley. "Mr. Vanderbilt, this is Paisley, the practitioner of the Ancient Medical Arts."
The words hung in the air, a shockwave. Jonathan turned to Charles. "Mr. Hansen, where's your mentor?" He was prepared to abandon hope if she wasn't present. But with Paisley here…
Charles stepped forward, a smirk playing on his lips. "Well, this is my mentor."
Jonathan's eyes widened. Unbelievable. But he quickly recovered. He knew Paisley's skill. He himself longed to study under her. Becoming a practitioner of the Ancient Medical Arts was no easy feat.
Reginald stared, speechless, as the earlier skepticism melted away. Jonathan, intent on getting Paisley to Paul, started to guide her, "Paisley, the patient's room—"
"Jonathan," Paisley interrupted, her voice sharp, "I don't treat those who don't trust me." She turned to leave.
"Paisley, wait!" Reginald pleaded.
Dominick's voice was rough, quiet. "Please. Save Grandpa."
The name hit Paisley. Paul's smile flashed in her mind, his familiar question, "So what are you cooking for me today, Paisley?"
She turned to Dominick. "You trust me?"
"I trust you," he affirmed.
Marissa protested, "Dom, we can't gamble with Grandpa's life!"
Ignoring her, Dominick's gaze remained fixed on Paisley. "Please, Paisley, I'm begging you."
Paisley sighed. "Alright, I'll try." This was for Paul, not Dominick. "Jonathan, let's move the patient to the operating room." She needed a distraction-free environment.
Her demeanor instantly shifted. Focus replaced any other emotion, her eyes blazing with determination. She was a doctor, pure and simple.
Dominick watched, awestruck. This wasn't the gentle wife and mother, the free-spirited equestrian; this was a doctor, commanding respect. His heart pounded.
