Chapter 109

Four years ago, the Sullivans were barely scraping by. Gregory’s watch was a pricey trinket, but now? Their wealth had exploded. It wasn't just Gregory's genius; someone powerful was bankrolling them. That explained Brittany's sudden movie career.

Paisley scoffed. "Who's that dumb?" she muttered, glancing at the trio before heading for the exit.

Gregory barked, "Hey! What's wrong with you? Respect!" His voice boomed through the lobby, heads turning.

Paisley spun, her eyes blazing. "Drama this early? Save it."

"Watch your tone," Gregory fumed, puffing up.

Brittany, looking concerned, touched his arm. "Dad, she's just stressed. Don't—"

"Who are you to talk to me?" Paisley snapped.

Brittany's face hardened. Gregory, seemingly calmer, patted Brittany's hand, his gaze lingering on Paisley's worn jeans, t-shirt, and backpack. He sighed dramatically. "Come home, Paisley. We're family."

"Forget it," Paisley said flatly.

Gregory's irritation flared. "If you weren't my daughter, I wouldn't bother! Haven't you learned your lesson?"

Paisley laughed. "Oh, you remember I was gone? Nine years. Nine years of being ignored, and now you're suddenly concerned?"

Gregory sputtered, then snarled, "Insolent brat! You'll learn your lesson!"

Paisley turned away. Gregory's voice followed her. "Don't claim to be my daughter! Don't tarnish our reputation!"

It clicked. They'd climbed the social ladder and didn't want her sullying their image. Paisley rolled her eyes.

Christina sneered at Paisley's retreating back. "She'll crawl back. Everyone knows Brittany's our only daughter."

Brittany nudged Gregory. "Dad, Mr. Vanderbilt."

Gregory, snapping out of it, ushered his family into the elevator. They had a more pressing matter at hand.
