Chapter 120

Diana, catching Kayla’s warning, simply raised an eyebrow. Kayla pressed on, “Marissa used her connections to get Mr. Vaire here. Once I win that painting, he’ll sign it.”

Diana glanced at Marissa. “You invited him?”

Diana knew art, especially valuable art. Nion’s painting commanded a high price—its beauty combined with the artist’s mysterious anonymity.

Marissa felt a pang of guilt. She hadn’t invited Nion; he’d come on his own. But having already boasted to Kayla, she mumbled, “I have connections.”

Diana didn't push it. Marissa had worked for the Vanderbilts long enough to have connections.

Marissa breathed a sigh of relief after spotting someone in Nion’s seat. Turning, she thought she saw a familiar face.

“Paisley?” The thought sent a jolt through her. Could Paisley be here?

But the figure vanished. Relieved, Marissa dismissed it as nerves. Paisley wouldn't be here; this was an event for the ultra-wealthy.

Two more auction items passed. Kayla, growing impatient, said, “Marissa, I’m going to the restroom.”

In the restroom, Paisley helped two teachers and several girls. The auction was long, and the girls needed to use the facilities.

“Thank you, Ms. Sutton,” the teachers murmured shyly. The venue’s poor organization left the children unattended.

Paisley, whose paintings weren't up for auction yet, smiled. “No problem. I was free.”

Annie, the last girl, stared at the clean restroom. “It smells so good! No bugs! My butt isn't freezing!”

Paisley started to straighten Annie’s clothes, but a teacher gently stopped her. “No, Ms. Sutton! Annie, straighten your clothes!” The teachers’ care was evident.

Suddenly, a sharp voice cut through the air. “Who are you? How did you get in here? You’ve made a mess!”

Paisley turned, unsurprised to see Kayla.
