Chapter 132
Four years later, and Marissa was still playing games. Back then, Paisley would have worried Dominick and Grayson would misunderstand, but not anymore. She watched, curious, to see if Marissa would actually commit to her charade. After all, an apology was long overdue.
Marissa, convinced a public display of weakness would win Paisley over, fully expected to be helped up. This was just a show. She never imagined actually hitting the floor.
But Paisley remained seated, a hint of mockery in her eyes. Marissa gritted her teeth. Getting up now would expose her lie. With a sigh, she sat hard on the ground.
Gasps rippled through the restaurant. "What's happening? Is she sick?"
Ignoring the murmurs, Marissa focused on her performance. The more pathetic she seemed, the more sympathy she'd garner from Dominick and Grayson. Clutching Paisley's pants, she sobbed, "Ms. Sutton, I've apologized! Please, remarry Dom!"
Dominick rushed over, pulling Marissa up. "Get up, Marissa! The floor's dirty!"
Marissa shook her head, her acting flawless. "Dom, it's my fault! I'll do anything to help you and Ms. Sutton get back together!"
"I don't need you to do anything! Just get up!" Dominick pulled her to her feet, glaring at Paisley. "Paisley, you're going too far."
Grayson arrived, eyes blazing. Marissa leaned heavily on Dominick, looking like she might collapse.
Paisley found it both infuriating and absurd. "What did I do? I didn't push her!"
Dominick's eyes flashed. "You—"
"I lost my balance," Marissa quickly interjected. "I thought it would earn Ms. Sutton's forgiveness."
Paisley scoffed. "Marissa, be careful. What if I actually took your advice and remarried Dominick?"
Marissa's face froze. She felt Dominick's grip tighten, his breathing harsh.
Paisley stood, grabbing her things. "Don't worry," she said, her voice cold. "I don't pick up trash I've thrown away." She scanned the three of them. "I hope you three live happily ever after." With that, she left with Maria and Serena.
"Paisley! What nonsense! Come back! Let's clear this up!" Dominick released Marissa, starting after Paisley.
"Dom! Ouch!" Marissa cried, clutching the table, swaying precariously.
Grayson saw the blood on Marissa's knee. "Dad! Marissa's bleeding! Hurry!"
