Chapter 137

Paisley slipped earplugs into Serena’s ears, silencing the impending confrontation. “Name your price,” she said to the driver, “anything, just let us go.” He laughed. “More than the Vanderbilts offered?”

His arrogance betrayed his knowledge of her family. "What's your relationship with Marissa?" she asked.

Jeremy, the driver, stared. “You’re smart,” he admitted. “Marissa wants you dead.”

“Because of Dominick?” Paisley asked. “I have nothing to do with him.”

Jeremy shook his head. “Your existence is the problem. Only your death will make him move on.”

“This is illegal!” Paisley hissed. “You’ll never escape this!”

Jeremy shrugged. “I’ve killed before. And Marissa’s rise to power depends on your demise.”

The car veered off course. Paisley reached for her phone, but Jeremy sneered. “Signal jammer.”

Panic threatened to overwhelm her, but Serena’s innocent, "Mommy, when will we get home?" jolted her back. Jeremy’s cruel laughter pierced through the earplugs. Paisley quickly reinforced them.

Jeremy watched her panic, a cruel glint in his eyes. “Such a beautiful face. No wonder Dominick… Once I'm done…” His words trailed off into obscenity.

Paisley whispered to Serena, “Don’t be afraid, sweetheart. Mommy’s here.”

Chapter 137 (continued)

Jeremy, watching Paisley soothe Serena, smirked. He was confident: a signal jammer, locked doors—escape was impossible. He underestimated her.

Suddenly, a long silver needle appeared in Paisley’s hand. A chilling smile spread across her face.

Jeremy scoffed. "Damn it, you slut—"

Before he could finish, Paisley lunged. Her arm clamped around his neck, pinning him to the seat. He struggled, but she plunged the needle into his neck.

He slumped over, his hand leaving the wheel. The car swerved wildly.

"Mommy! A car!" Serena screamed.

Paisley reacted instantly. She scrambled into the front, taking advantage of the removed passenger partition. She wrestled control of the wheel, just barely avoiding a head-on collision with a speeding truck. Tires screeching, the taxi slammed into a tree.
