Chapter 214

"Calm down, I'll call Jonathan." Reginald's call went straight to voicemail. Of course. Jonathan would be swamped. "Let's wait. If it's really bad, we transfer him."

Lauren sobbed, helpless by Grayson's bedside. "My poor Sonny! He's never…"

Kayla offered silent comfort, her mother's distress bordering on hysteria. Grayson's wails intensified with each of Lauren's sobs.

Dominick snapped, "Stop crying! You're embarrassing yourself."

Lauren stared, stunned by his coldness. Ignoring her, Dominick addressed Grayson, "You're a big boy. Stop crying. Be brave."

Grayson's cries escalated. "It hurts! I'm going to die!"

Lauren shoved Dominick. "What kind of father are you? He's in agony!"

Dominick saw then the extent of Lauren's overindulgence. He thought of Serena, three years old, injured, yet quiet and stoic. A stark contrast. Her quiet tears, bravely wiped away, pierced his heart. Paisley practically flew to the hospital, each red light a fresh wave of panic. Max's expert driving got them there in record time.

The car door unlocked; Paisley burst out, noticing only then Leo and his men trailing them. "Thank you!" she gasped to Max, sprinting towards the emergency room.

Max tossed Leo the keys. "I'll go see."

Leo passed the keys to a subordinate, hurrying after Max. "Boss, it's been ages since you drove." Max rarely drove since his injury.

Max glanced at Leo, then increased his pace. Leo sighed. "Right, too chatty again."
