Chapter 237
Brittany’s eyes welled, her face a mask of suppressed tears. "I'm sorry, Ms. Levine. I don't know what I did."
Daisy sneered. "Don't play innocent. Who are you fooling?"
The other girls erupted in laughter. They were all too young to be fooled by Brittany's act.
Brittany’s face burned. She gritted her teeth, a forced smile plastered on her lips.
Daisy’s sneer mirrored the one from earlier. Brittany’s expression froze. "Ms. Levine, did I offend you? Why are you targeting me?"
Daisy arched an eyebrow. "Still pretending? No wonder you're an actress—the actress laughed off the set of that Nion drama."
Another girl gasped. "What happened?"
Daisy leaned in, her voice animated. "Didn't you hear? She got a big investor to push her into the lead role, but then every other actor quit. Nobody wanted to work with her!"
"Embarrassing!" one girl exclaimed.
"So embarrassing!" echoed another.
The word echoed in Brittany’s ears like a curse. Her hands clenched, her eyes blazing.
Daisy continued, her gaze cold. "But that's not the worst of it. The crew couldn't find a male lead, and production stalled because of her. She was a nightmare; bossy, demanding, acting like a queen when she wasn't even an award-winning actress."
Daisy’s sneer sharpened. "You weren't crowned queen, were you? Now you're playing the dog."
The girls might have sympathized if Brittany hadn't been so two-faced. They understood the need to survive, but her duplicity was repulsive. They'd seen plenty of fake women in their lives; Brittany was just a particularly clumsy clown. And today, they weren’t in the mood for a show.
