Chapter 265
Lucy returned, the assistant’s face a picture of sheepish regret. Sam hadn’t been merciful; the snack bill, a hefty sum, was coming out of his pocket. Lucy reimbursed him, but Paisley swiftly redirected the cost to Dominick – the source of the whole debacle.
Finding Dominick chatting with Gary, Paisley thrust the bill forward. “Pay up.”
Without a word, Dominick transferred the money. Paisley raised an eyebrow at his unprompted compliance. “Appreciate your…kindness. Now leave.”
Dominick smirked. “Nion, you can’t make me leave.”
Paisley, confused by the nickname, shot a questioning glance at Gary. His apologetic expression spoke volumes. “Ms. Vaire, Mr. Vanderbilt is our main investor.”
Even without the investment, Dominick’s clout was undeniable. He’d strong-armed Gary into casting Brittany; this new investment was just another tactic. He'd ensure his presence on set, keeping a close watch – especially on Paisley.
Glaring at him, Paisley coldly returned to work. The food trucks, per Dominick’s order, remained, guaranteeing a readily available supply of food for Paisley.
After a break, filming resumed. Dominick settled into a chair beside Gary, the picture of a concerned investor. Paisley ignored him, content as long as he didn't interfere.
The next scene proved crucial. Sam, rattled by the earlier events, struggled, flubbing multiple takes. Gary appealed to Paisley for help.
She stepped in, gathering the actors and guiding them through the scene. Dominick watched from beside Gary, his eyes riveted to the monitor. He absorbed every nuance of Paisley's expressions – her furrowed brow, her smile, her shift from seriousness to ease – each change stirring something deep within him.
“Beautiful scene, huh?” Gary commented, genuinely impressed.
“Yeah, beautiful,” Dominick murmured, his gaze unwavering. Other attractive actresses blurred in his periphery; only Paisley held his attention.
Gary, noticing Dominick’s focus, nodded towards the monitor. “Shame she’s not an actress. She’s got it all.” He was certain Paisley could become a star.
Then, a sudden flash of cold light flickered above Paisley’s head on the monitor. Dominick's expression hardened, his attention instantly diverted.
