Chapter 35

Paisley knew Emery would explode if she saw Dominick. A scene was the last thing she needed. Grayson should leave too; it was best for everyone.

“Paisley!” Dominick snarled, eyes blazing. “You’re Sonny’s mother! You’re legally responsible for him until he’s eighteen!” He jabbed a finger at her phone. “Call that guy and tell him to stay away!” The thought of Grayson, that slicked-back sitcom pretty boy, sent Dominick’s blood pressure soaring. He started to rant about unsuitable boyfriends but stopped short, seeing Serena’s wide, scared eyes. His tirade died in his throat. “Just…take care of Sonny this weekend. You’re his mother.” He spun on his heel, heading for the door.

Then he turned back.

“What now?” Paisley snapped.

“Your number,” he muttered, avoiding her gaze.

“It’s the same. You’re still blacklisted,” Paisley replied flatly.

Dominick whirled, glaring. “Remove me! I’m checking on Sonny whenever I want!”

Paisley sighed, rolling her eyes. She reluctantly unblocked his number. Seeing those familiar digits brought a rush of complicated feelings.

“Anything else, Mr. Vanderbilt?” she asked, her tone businesslike.

He opened his mouth, then saw the kids watching. He swallowed whatever he was going to say, grabbed his jacket, and turned to Paisley, his voice cold. “Don’t let that guy near my son.”

“Got it. Now go,” Paisley retorted.

He didn’t move. Paisley fumed inwardly. He has a flight tonight!

Just as she was about to explode, his phone rang. He answered, a frantic, tear-filled voice—Marissa’s—cutting through the speaker before he could even put the phone to his ear. “Dom…”

Dominick’s face hardened. “Okay, wait for me. I’ll be there in a minute.” He shot Paisley a quick nod, then rushed out, leaving the door ajar.

Paisley closed it quietly, feeling a wave of relief wash over her. She was finally free.
