Chapter 53
Maria and Serena squealed with delight, tearing through the presidential suite. Serena, especially, was ecstatic, scrambling into the miniature castle in her private play area.
Wendy, the manager, smiled. "Mr. Beaumont had this all prepared for your daughter."
"Thank you," Paisley replied politely.
"It's our pleasure. You're an honored guest," Wendy said, relieved Paisley wasn't upset about her delayed arrival.
Serena burst from the castle, racing towards the balcony. Maria cried out, "Serena! Don't fall!"
Serena giggled, pressing her nose against the glass. "Mommy, a horse! I want to ride!"
Wendy turned to Paisley. "The stables are nearby. Mr. Beaumont said you're welcome to use any of the horses, including Nyx."
Paisley nodded calmly. Serena's enthusiasm swayed her. A little ride later wouldn't hurt.
Wendy handed Paisley the key card. "Ms. Sutton, Mr. Beaumont extends full access to all club facilities."
"And the cocktail party tonight," Wendy continued. "Do you need assistance with a gown?"
"I'm all set," Paisley said, thinking of Emery's custom creation.
"Excellent," Wendy said. "Please don't hesitate to contact me. Goodbye."
"Thank you," Paisley said, then paused. "You seem unwell. Are you having stomach trouble?"
Wendy froze, startled. "Yes, Ms. Sutton! How did you know?"
Paisley produced a small bottle. "Take one of these if you feel unwell." Wendy, assuming it was antacid, gratefully accepted.
Maria scooped up Serena. "Paisley, this place is enormous! Should we let Lucy stay with us?"
Paisley, unpacking and pulling out riding gear, shook her head. "No. Let her stay alone." Even this luxurious setting couldn't entirely escape the shadow of her boss. She needed some real relaxation.
