Listen to this chapter:

Evelyn leaned back against the bar stool, swaying to the club's pulsing bass, which throbbed through her as she watched Rayna casually sip her cocktail. "You know what I've been thinking since I saw you and Derek earlier?" Rayna asked, setting down her glass.

"Am I supposed to know?" Evelyn asked, amused by the mischievous glint in Rayna's eyes.

"I'm thinking that if things don't work out between ET and me, I'm just going to drive recklessly and crash into the first guy my car hits," she said with a grin, and Evelyn laughed. "And if it's a married man?" Evelyn joked.

"Well, I'll keep crashing until I get lucky," Rayna replied, and Evelyn laughed again.

"Have you considered the possibility of hitting a serial rapist or killer?" Evelyn asked, raising her drink to her lips.

"I'll take my chances, just like you took yours. Remember how you snagged the best man in one reckless moment?" Rayna said, and Evelyn laughed.

Before Evelyn could respond, her phone buzzed in her purse. Pulling it out, she saw Derek's name flashing on the screen. Smiling, she showed Rayna. "Hey, D," she answered, grinning as Rayna mimicked her.

"It seems you were right," Derek's voice came through.

Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "Right about what?"

"I just confirmed Michael booked the suite for both of them, and from what I can gather, Sandra's meeting him first. I'm not sure he knows Sandra invited you," Derek said. Evelyn paused, letting the words sink in. "Sandra's playing him?" she asked, her brow furrowed.

"I think so. Keep your guard up," Derek warned.

Evelyn nodded. "Thanks for letting me know. I'll handle things on my end."

After hanging up, Evelyn turned to Rayna, who was watching her with curious eyes. "Sandra's playing her own game," Evelyn said, recounting Derek's news. Rayna raised an eyebrow, swirling the ice in her glass. "I wonder what she's up to this time."

Evelyn rolled her eyes and took a long sip of her drink. "Honestly, I don't care. Let's enjoy the night until she shows up. The less I think about her, the better."

Rayna chuckled, leaning back on her stool. Just as she was about to speak, her phone buzzed on the counter. A grin spread across her face as she glanced at the screen. "It's ET," she giggled.

Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "What's he saying now?"

Rayna read the message aloud, still smiling: "[Congratulations, you made it to the top 5.]"

Evelyn laughed, shaking her head. "Either he has a great sense of humor, or he's full of himself."

"Probably both," Rayna said with a grin, typing a reply: "[Yay! Let me know when I make it to the top 3.]"

Before Rayna could put down her phone, it buzzed again—a call this time. She glanced at the screen and scowled. "It's the snake." Evelyn sat up straighter, her eyes narrowing.

"Perfect timing."

Rayna answered, her voice smooth. "Hey, Sandy! Where are you?"

Sandra's impatient voice crackled through the phone. "I'm at the entrance. Where are you two?"

Rayna gave their location, hung up, and slipped her phone back into her purse. "She'll be here soon," she sighed.

Evelyn raised her glass, taking another sip to calm her nerves. "Great. Let's put on the best show of our lives."

Moments later, Sandra appeared, striding purposefully through the crowd, her eyes scanning until she spotted Rayna and Evelyn. As she approached, Evelyn feigned surprise, setting her glass down a little too hard on the bar.

"What the hell is she doing here?" Evelyn snapped, turning to Rayna with mock anger.

Rayna widened her eyes and placed a calming hand on Evelyn's arm. "Evie, calm down. I just thought—"

"Sandra, really?" Evelyn's voice dripped with disbelief. "Why did you set this up? Was she the reason you insisted we come tonight?"

Sandra stepped forward, hands raised placatingly. "Evelyn, please! I don't want to fight anymore. I want to resolve this. I'm tired of the bad blood."

Evelyn scoffed, crossing her arms. "Really? Since when? Do you think I've forgotten this morning's performance? You must think I'm an idiot."

"No, it's not that, Evie, I swear. I've realized my mistakes…"

"You must think I'm a fool, that one apology fixes everything? How dare you show up after everything you've done?" Evelyn asked. Rayna, playing along, looked between them with feigned concern.

"Evie, you're sisters. Can't you forget what happened and get along? I miss the three of us."

Evelyn's eyes narrowed. "You're saying that because you don't know what kind of person Sandra is. She's a backstabbing, manipulative bitch."

"What did she do to you?" Rayna asked, but before Evelyn could answer, Sandra cut in.

"It's a misunderstanding, Evie," Sandra's voice cracked, her expression desperate. "Give me a chance to explain. Please. I need you to understand."

"I'm never going to understand. You don't mean anything to me anymore," Evelyn said spitefully.

"Please, Evie, hear her out," Rayna pleaded. Evelyn sighed dramatically.

"Fine. Only for your sake, Ray. But don't expect forgiveness," Evelyn said, and Rayna nodded.

"Sure. Thanks. Let's all sit—"

Sandra looked at Rayna apologetically. "I'm sorry, Ray, but could you excuse us? I want to speak with Evelyn alone, sister to sister."

Rayna frowned, glancing at Evelyn, who shrugged. "You brought me here to hear her out. This is between us."

Sandra nodded slowly. "Yes. Please, Rayna, give us a moment?"

Rayna hesitated, then, receiving a subtle nod from Evelyn, smiled, picked up her glass, and stood. "Alright. I'll hit the dance floor. But I would have loved to be a part of this," she said, moving a short distance away where she could still observe.

Once Rayna was gone, Sandra stepped closer, her voice trembling. "Evie, I'm so sorry for everything. I don't want to fight anymore."

Evelyn raised an eyebrow skeptically. "Cut the pretense, Sandra. We're alone. Tell me exactly what this is about."

Tears welled in Sandra's eyes. "I'm serious, Evelyn! I've been envious of you. I didn't know how to handle it, and it ruined everything. I just I miss you. I'm sorry for everything. I've moved out of the house. I'm too ashamed to face Mom and Dad." Evelyn eyed her neutrally. She wouldn't fall for Sandra's crocodile tears; she saw Sandra's game—the mention of moving out was to lure her to Michael's suite.

Evelyn softened her expression and nodded slowly, remaining vigilant. "Fine, Sandra. I'm tired of fighting, too. Let's bury the hatchet."

Sandra sniffed and smiled through her tears. "Really?" Evelyn's nod lit up her face with hope. "If you mean that, hug me. Let's be sisters again."

Evelyn hesitated, then leaned forward, embracing Sandra. She felt Sandra cling longer than necessary, and felt Sandra's hands moving.

Observing from afar, Rayna narrowed her eyes as she watched Sandra embrace Evelyn. Seeing Sandra look around, Rayna took out her phone and began recording. She recorded Sandra opening her purse, taking out a vial, using her purse to conceal it as she slipped something into Evelyn's drink. Immediately, Rayna stopped recording and hurried over to prevent Evelyn from drinking.
