Chapter 3
Opening their chat history, the first thing I saw were photos of my five dead babies.
“Got the specimen for you, Rachel. Sending it by helicopter this afternoon. Very fresh—won’t compromise your research data.”
“Used up the last sample? Don’t worry, Emily’s pregnant again. I’ll find a way to induce premature labor. You’ll have new specimens soon. My Rachel is such a dedicated girl—you’ll make an incredible doctor someday.”
“When are you coming back home, Rachel? I’ve been saving the position of wife for you. Emily is just a tool for my physical needs.”
My hands trembled as they moved to my stomach, bitter tears streaming down my face. This baby should never have existed.
Their photo album contained over ten thousand pictures of them together, from childhood to adulthood. James had added love notes to each one—not a single message repeated.
During our seven years of secret marriage, James was “traveling for business” most of the time. Now I knew he was actually with Rachel.
The chat history contained over a hundred wedding design proposals, every detail personally planned by James. Each version was incredibly lavish, all for Rachel to choose from.
For every holiday, big or small, he prepared exquisite, expensive gifts for Rachel. No matter how busy he was, he would fly across oceans to deliver them personally. Meanwhile, I only received promotional freebies that came with her gifts.
I remember our wedding day—James didn’t even bring me flowers. One evening, while walking past a florist, he noticed my hopeful expression and coldly remarked: “That’s childish stuff that only immature girls like. Emily, you’re not that juvenile.”
Yet he had purchased an entire estate abroad and filled it with rare, precious flowers for Rachel. Their photos showed them kissing amid a sea of blossoms.
Looking at those images, I suddenly laughed through my tears. After taking pictures of everything as evidence, I found our fake marriage certificate. James had claimed he didn’t want to tire me out, so he arranged for officials to come to our home for the paperwork.

They were just actors he had hired. I tore the certificate to pieces and threw it in the trash.
Back in bed, I stared at James’s handsome profile and felt nothing but emptiness where love had once been.
