Was this what they called high society? Watching Preston whisk Freya away, everyone around couldn’t hide their envy. Preston had never been the type to chase after a girl, especially not to school!

“Kara, isn’t that your cousin?” one of the classmates nudged Kara.

“Yeah, is she having an affair with Mr. Tyler? Come on, spill the beans!” another pressed, both eager to dive into the juiciest gossip in their elite circle.

Kara shuffled around awkwardly. Even though she was related to Johanna, she practically had zero connections with the Dawson family. And as for Freya? She hardly acknowledged Kara as her cousin.

Seeing Kara’s hesitation, one girl teased, “Kara, you’re not making this up, are you?”

“Yeah, if you’re Freya’s cousin, how come you know nothing about her? Do you say Mr. Sutton helped you get into Summit University?”

The skepticism was palpable.

“I’m telling the truth,” Kara insisted.

“Doesn’t seem like it,” another girl scoffed. “So, what’s the real deal with Freya and Mr. Tyler? Is she cheating or…?”

That was when Kara thought of Kieran. During that meeting in his office, Kieran mentioned that someone else could easily take Freya’s place if rumors about Freya started circulating; maybe Kieran would consider her instead.

With that thought, Kara managed a sly smile and said, “You know how messy things can get in our circle. Some things are better left unsaid, right?”

Kara’s ambiguous statement set off a bombshell.

“So, you’re saying Freya is involved with Mr. Tyler?”

Emboldened, Kara ventured, “Why else would Mr. Tyler show up at school first thing in the morning? Didn’t you see how close he and Freya were?”

Kara’s words were enough to convince most of them. It was not uncommon for people to have their flings in their circle. It looked like Freya wasn’t the goody-two-shoes they thought she was, flirting all over the place!

“Kara, since you’re Freya’s cousin, you must see Mr. Sutton often, right?”

“Yeah. We heard Mr. Sutton isn’t hanging around Ms. Harwood much now. Does he have someone new in mind?”

Everyone crowded around Kara, hoping to glean some insider info about Kieran from her.

But Kara was in a tight spot. She had only met Kieran a few times and hadn’t had the chance to see him since. Attempts to thank him in person always got turned away.

Yet, to maintain her facade of belonging to high society before her peers, Kara bluffed, “Of course, Freya is now staying at Mr. Sutton’s place! Everyone knows Mr. Sutton had a thing for Ms. Harwood, so he prefers the gentle and elegant type.”

Suddenly, a wave of excitement spread among the nearby girls. “Hey! Check it out! It’s Mr. Sutton!”

“Mr. Sutton’s here again? Could he be here for Freya?”

Everyone’s eyes turned. The arrival of two prominent figures at school early in the morning was a cause for excitement.

When she saw Kieran stepping out of the car, Kara’s face flushed with color.

“Kara, you’re Freya’s cousin. Aren’t you going to say hello to Mr. Sutton?” one girl nudged.

“Yeah, go on. Give us a show!” another interrupted.
