Chapter 136
โReally?โ Freya thought. โPreston, youโve got eyes in the back of your head now?โ
Preston said coldly, โHans, pat her down.โ
Freya stood her ground as Hans stepped forward to search her. She frowned and said, โI am, after all, Kieranโs fiancรฉe. Shouldnโt someone else be doing this?โ
โYouโre right,โ Prestonโs voice was devoid of emotion.
Freya thought heโd have one of the women staff members frisk her, but then Preston walked up to her and said, โI do it myself.โ
โYouโฆโ
Before Freya could finish, Preston had already begun to search her.
After confirming Freya wasnโt carrying anything suspicious, Preston allowed her into his penthouse suite.
Once inside, Freya started to take in the lavish layout of the suite, which was probably the most modestly appointed penthouse in Echo City. The furnishings were surprisingly sparse, the bed reminiscent of a wooden plank. Not even Preston, much less any middle-class worker in Echo City, would stay in such a place. After all, it was outdated, sparsely furnished, and, most importantly, outrageously priced.
โTake a look.โ Preston got straight to the point.
He tossed a stack of documents onto the table before Freya. Bending down, Freya picked them up and saw they were about 120 South Seashore Drive. The land belonged to the Harwood family. Preston had his eyes on the land to open a new branch of the Tyler Group in Echo City. Basically, he was trying to sneak his overseas money back home legallyโsomething people often refer to as โmoney laundering.โ
โMr. Tyler, why show me this?โ Freya asked.
Pretending ignorance, Preston leaned back on the sofa and said, โNo one knows why Iโve come to Echo City. Iโm curious. How did you know I intended to buy 120 South Seashore Drive?โ Even Hans was in the dark about this.
Of course, Freya knew the significance of Preston buying the land. She remembered because, in her past life, Preston fell for Eloise instantly after he met her. Initially planning to buy the land at a low price, Preston purchased it for ten times its value to catch Eloiseโs attention. His extravagant pursuit of Eloise had caused quite a stir in Echo City. But all of that had yet to happen. Except for Freya and Preston, no one paid any attention to the land.
โLetโs say I got lucky with a guess,โ Freya said.
After all, she couldnโt tell Preston she was reborn. No one would believe such an absurd claim.
Prestonโs piercing gaze scrutinized Freyaโs words, skeptical. โI have many ways to make Ms. Dawson talk. Would you wish to try?โ he said, noting Hans to get ready to move in.
In desperation, Freya blurted out, โMr. Tyler, arenโt you interested in getting closer to Eloise by buying that land? I can help!โ Mention of Eloise raised Prestonโs eyebrows. โOh?โ
His interest in Eloise was partly because of the land and because Eloise was Kieranโs woman. But how did Freya know?
