Chapter 140
Freya didnโt even give Kara a chance to protest. When everyone saw Freya taking Kara by the arm and leading her away, whispers erupted in the crowd.
โDoes Freya know Karaโs been cozying up to Mr. Sutton and is green with envy?โ
โItโs definitely gonna be a face-off. What else could have put that look on Freyaโs face?โ
โFreya thinks too highly of herself. Mr. Sutton is into Kara, and whatโs there for her to be jealous about? Everyone knows her fiancรฉ is just for show.โ
Overhearing the gossip, Luna glanced at the group sternly. โWhat was that? Say it one more time.โ
Knowing Luna as the daughter of a media mogul, the group quickly apologized, โMs. Jennings, we were justโฆโ
โYeah, just talking rubbish! Please donโt take it to heart.โ
โIโm warning you. If I hear anyone badmouthing Freya again, youโll regret it.โ Lunaโs tone had turned icy.
The group quieted down, not wanting to anger Luna. After all, Luna had powerful parents backing her up, unlike Freya, who only had a stepmother.
Meanwhile, Freya had taken Kara to an empty classroom. Once inside, looking rather pitiful, Kara said, โFreya, youโre hurting me.โ
โWhat did you say to Kieran?โ
โโฆI didnโtโฆโ Kara bit her lip, pleading, โI didnโt say anything.โ
Seeing Karaโs woeful expression, Freya laughed. โIโm not usually one for violence, but if someone crosses the line, I wonโt hesitate to respond.โ
โFreyaโฆ I donโt know what youโre talking about.โ Kara was on the verge of tears. โI donโt know whoโs been filling your head with gossip, but I swear I didnโt badmouth you to Mr. Sutton.โ
โDonโt play innocent. Your classmates saw everything, and so did I. Denying it wonโt help. Maybe I should call in one of them to verify what you and Kieran were up to this morning.โ
When Luna suddenly appeared, Karaโs face fell.
Freya continued, โYou should remember, you got into Summit University because of me. Otherwise, Kieran wouldnโt have pulled strings for you. Kara, Iโll give you one more chance. Speak up, will you?โ
โIโll talk! Iโll talk!โ Kara hurriedly confessed. โIโm sorry, Freya. It wasnโt intentional. It was Mr. Sutton. He insisted on asking. After all, Mr. Sutton got me into Summit University. I feared heโd kick me out if I didnโt tell him the truth.โ
Kara grabbed Freyaโs arm, pleading, โFreya, itโs my fault. Iโm sorry, but what I said was the truth. Youโre engaged. How can you be so close to another man? Please, donโt be mad at me. I said many good things about you before Mr. Suttonโฆโ
Watching Kara, Freya flashed back to the day Kara had even gone down on her knees to shine Kieranโs shoes at the Sutton Group: Kara must have some kind of game plan with Kieran.
โYouโre just stating the facts,โ Freya said, smiling, โIโm not mad.โ
โReya! How can you not be mad?โ Luna was livid, seeing through Karaโs intentions, even as an outsider. How could Freya not?
Yet to Kara, Freya said, โYouโre oversimplifying things. Do you think you, who entered Summit University through the back door, will have any security in the future if Kieran doubts my relationship with Mr. Tyler and breaks off our engagement in anger?โ
Upon hearing this, Kara, who had been playing the victim, was suddenly speechless.
