Chapter 140

Freya didnโ€™t even give Kara a chance to protest. When everyone saw Freya taking Kara by the arm and leading her away, whispers erupted in the crowd.

โ€œDoes Freya know Karaโ€™s been cozying up to Mr. Sutton and is green with envy?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s definitely gonna be a face-off. What else could have put that look on Freyaโ€™s face?โ€

โ€œFreya thinks too highly of herself. Mr. Sutton is into Kara, and whatโ€™s there for her to be jealous about? Everyone knows her fiancรฉ is just for show.โ€

Overhearing the gossip, Luna glanced at the group sternly. โ€œWhat was that? Say it one more time.โ€

Knowing Luna as the daughter of a media mogul, the group quickly apologized, โ€œMs. Jennings, we were justโ€ฆโ€

โ€œYeah, just talking rubbish! Please donโ€™t take it to heart.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m warning you. If I hear anyone badmouthing Freya again, youโ€™ll regret it.โ€ Lunaโ€™s tone had turned icy.

The group quieted down, not wanting to anger Luna. After all, Luna had powerful parents backing her up, unlike Freya, who only had a stepmother.

Meanwhile, Freya had taken Kara to an empty classroom. Once inside, looking rather pitiful, Kara said, โ€œFreya, youโ€™re hurting me.โ€

โ€œWhat did you say to Kieran?โ€

โ€œโ€ฆI didnโ€™tโ€ฆโ€ Kara bit her lip, pleading, โ€œI didnโ€™t say anything.โ€

Seeing Karaโ€™s woeful expression, Freya laughed. โ€œIโ€™m not usually one for violence, but if someone crosses the line, I wonโ€™t hesitate to respond.โ€

โ€œFreyaโ€ฆ I donโ€™t know what youโ€™re talking about.โ€ Kara was on the verge of tears. โ€œI donโ€™t know whoโ€™s been filling your head with gossip, but I swear I didnโ€™t badmouth you to Mr. Sutton.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t play innocent. Your classmates saw everything, and so did I. Denying it wonโ€™t help. Maybe I should call in one of them to verify what you and Kieran were up to this morning.โ€

When Luna suddenly appeared, Karaโ€™s face fell.

Freya continued, โ€œYou should remember, you got into Summit University because of me. Otherwise, Kieran wouldnโ€™t have pulled strings for you. Kara, Iโ€™ll give you one more chance. Speak up, will you?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll talk! Iโ€™ll talk!โ€ Kara hurriedly confessed. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Freya. It wasnโ€™t intentional. It was Mr. Sutton. He insisted on asking. After all, Mr. Sutton got me into Summit University. I feared heโ€™d kick me out if I didnโ€™t tell him the truth.โ€

Kara grabbed Freyaโ€™s arm, pleading, โ€œFreya, itโ€™s my fault. Iโ€™m sorry, but what I said was the truth. Youโ€™re engaged. How can you be so close to another man? Please, donโ€™t be mad at me. I said many good things about you before Mr. Suttonโ€ฆโ€

Watching Kara, Freya flashed back to the day Kara had even gone down on her knees to shine Kieranโ€™s shoes at the Sutton Group: Kara must have some kind of game plan with Kieran.

โ€œYouโ€™re just stating the facts,โ€ Freya said, smiling, โ€œIโ€™m not mad.โ€

โ€œReya! How can you not be mad?โ€ Luna was livid, seeing through Karaโ€™s intentions, even as an outsider. How could Freya not?

Yet to Kara, Freya said, โ€œYouโ€™re oversimplifying things. Do you think you, who entered Summit University through the back door, will have any security in the future if Kieran doubts my relationship with Mr. Tyler and breaks off our engagement in anger?โ€

Upon hearing this, Kara, who had been playing the victim, was suddenly speechless.
