Chapter 150

On the surface, Freya didnโ€™t call Johanna out on her true intentions. Instead, she played along, saying, โ€œWell then, I owe you one, Johanna.โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s no need for thanks, darling. Just keep on the straight and narrow, and with your looks, why wouldnโ€™t Mr. Sutton be smitten?โ€ Johannaโ€™s voice softened. โ€œWhen you make it big, donโ€™t forget all the good Iโ€™ve done for you.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll never forget the good youโ€™ve done for me, Johanna,โ€ Freya responded, her smile sending a chill down Johannaโ€™s spine. The words Johanna intended to say got stuck in her throat.

What happened to the Freya who was so easy to manipulate?

โ€œMom, Iโ€™m home!โ€ Leland entered the door, decked out in trendy athleisure, complete with earrings and rings, embodying the rebellious youth to a T. His gaze landed on Freya, and with a frown, he asked, โ€œWhat are you doing here? Who let you back in?โ€

Seated on the couch, Freya didnโ€™t stand up or greet Leland. Face darkening, Leland snapped, โ€œFreya! Iโ€™m talking to you. Did you hear me?โ€

โ€œFreya, thatโ€™s too much. Leland is talking to you. How can you ignore him like this?โ€ Johanna feigned reprimand.

Freya retorted, โ€œJohanna, Iโ€™ve said it before. It is my house. Whether I come back or not isnโ€™t up for discussion.โ€

โ€œFreya, how can you speak to my mom that way?โ€ Lelandโ€™s temper flared instantly. He stepped forward, intent on teaching Freya a lesson, only to be stopped by her cold words, โ€œThe deed to this house is in my hands, and your nameโ€™s not on it. Believe me. I can have you out of here with just one word.โ€

โ€œYou!โ€ Leland was stopped in his tracks by Freyaโ€™s words.

Seeing Freya truly upset, Johanna quickly held Leland back, urging, โ€œWhatโ€™s gotten into you, child? Apologize to Freya instantly!โ€ When youโ€™re under someone elseโ€™s roof, you follow their rules.

Johanna had always used her seniority to push Freya around because she was an easy target, constantly testing her limits. But Freya was no longer the pushover she once was. If she threatened them with eviction, theyโ€™d have no choice but to leave!

Johanna couldnโ€™t lose her cool without the Dawson familyโ€™s fortune securely in her grasp. Freya had pinpointed Johannaโ€™s vulnerability. As long as the Dawson familyโ€™s assets werenโ€™t in Johannaโ€™s hands, Johanna had to keep a low profile, unable to afford any confrontation with Freya.

Remembering the past lifeโ€™s deeds of Johanna and her son toward the Dawson Group and herself, Freyaโ€™s expression turned icy. She wasnโ€™t about to make the mistake of kicking Johanna out, which would only allow her to scheme secretly. Keeping Johanna close was a better way to maintain control.

Across from her, Leland stubbornly refused to apologize. Freya wasnโ€™t in a hurry, letting the silence linger for a few seconds. Seeing her son wasnโ€™t catching on, Johanna gave Leland a sharp pat on the shoulder. โ€œDid you hear me? Apologize to Freya, now!โ€

โ€œSorry!โ€ Lelandโ€™s apology was filled with resentment and dissatisfaction, his voice heavy with grudges.
