Freya wasn’t surprised by Audrey’s focus. After all, as the Sutton family’s eldest member, Audrey cared about what kind of trouble her would-be granddaughter-in-law had gotten into. Being involved with the police was like being blacklisted in their social circles. Even if people were willing to maintain a facade of cordiality, they would never get too close.
Just as Freya was about to open her mouth, Kieran jumped in, “I got Reya all wrong. We had a little tiff. That’s all there is to it.”
“A spat that landed you in the police station!” Audrey’s face darkened as she looked at Kieran and said, “The Harwood family got vandalized, but it doesn’t involve Ms. Dawson, does it?”
“Grandma, you’re right. I realize my mistake. That’s why I picked up Reya from the hospital and arranged for someone to look after her.” Seeing Kieran’s sincere attitude softened Audrey’s expression slightly. She said coldly, “Since you two have called off the engagement, it’s inappropriate for Ms. Dawson to stay here. She should come to live with me. I’ll ensure she’s well taken care of.”
Audrey’s repeated reference to “Ms. Dawson” indicated she no longer considered her to be Kieran’s fiancée, which secretly pleased Freya. However, she wasn’t naive. With the Sutton family’s reputation tarnished due to her, who knew how Audrey might seek to ‘educate’ her? Rather than moving in with Audrey, Freya preferred to be by herself.
