Chapter 298
When Freyaโs gaze met Prestonโs, she hesitated, her previous determination to leave momentarily faltering.
โWhere are you off to?โ Preston asked, his tone indifferent.
โKieranโs looking for me. I have to go home for a bit,โ Freya replied.
Hearing that, Preston pressed, โAnd what about your writing? Are you still practicing?โ
โUmโฆ Yes, butโฆโ
โPractice isnโt something you do sporadically. If Kieranโs calling you back every day, does that mean youโll leave every day?โ
Freya fell silent under Prestonโs reprimand, not daring to speak up.
Preston added coldly, โYouโre free to go, of course. But if you do, donโt bother returning to me for writing lessons.โ His tone turned icy, leaving Freya with no doubt about how serious he was. She had produced an essay with her left hand just the night before, and abandoning her progress was not an option.
Overhearing the commotion upstairs, Neil came down to investigate. Seeing both silent, he asked, โWhatโs going on here?โ
โIโฆ I wanted to head back for a bit, but Mr. Tyler isnโt keen on the idea,โ Freya explained, cautiously watching Prestonโs reaction.
Preston remained impassive, which Neil quickly picked up on. โIs it Kieran calling you back?โ
Freya nodded. โYes.โ
โYouโve called off the engagement. Why bother with Kieran?โ As Neil spoke, he gently pushed Freya back onto the couch, continuing, โI get it. Youโre worried Kieran might retaliate against the Dawson family. But look, Prestonโs taken you under his wing as your mentor. Heโll look out for you.โ
Freya found herself reassured by Neilโs words and sat back down.
โIf Kieran becomes a nuisance, Iโll take you back tonight, claiming itโs for a physical therapy session. With the engagement off, he has no say over who youโre friends with. It makes sense, right?โ
โRight. That makes sense.โ
Comforted by Neilโs logic, Freya no longer felt inclined to put up with Kieran. She would have cut ties with him long ago had she not felt outmatched.
โThen stay here and relax. Iโll ensure you get back safely once itโs dark,โ Neil promised, trying to put Freya at ease.
Observing Prestonโs silent agreement, Freya nodded. โOkay, thanks, Dr. Anderson.โ
โDonโt mention it! Youโre Prestonโs student, which makes you mine, too. Preston and I have always had each otherโs backs.โ
Noticing Prestonโs gaze, Neil quickly excused himself. โUh, Iโve got things to attend to. Iโll be back tonight.โ
With that, Neil left, and so did Hans, leaving Freyaโs room in silence.
Turning to Preston, Freya ventured, โSoโฆ should I go and practice writing in the study?โ
โSuit yourself,โ Preston replied without a glance, leaving.
Thanks to Neilโs intervention, Freya felt justified in staying in the Tyler Mansion, unlike the previous night when Preston had kept a close eye on her.
