Chapter 318
โLittle tramp! Get out here, now!โ Mrs. Simmons, the landlady, stormed into Karaโs room with a fury that could scare off a bear.
When Kara saw Mrs. Simmons barge into her room, her face went pale. โMrs. Simmons, how could you barge into my room like that? Youโฆ Ah!โ
Before Kara could finish her sentence, Mrs. Simmons slapped her across the face.
โHow dare you hit me!โ Karaโs face twisted in anger and disbelief. Being the schoolโs darling, Kara wasnโt used to taking aggression. That was a first.
โWhy canโt I hit you? Do you have any idea how much trouble youโve caused me? You knew Freya was a high-society belle, yet you kept spreading rumors about her around the neighborhood. Youโve made an enemy of her for me. How could you be so malicious?โ Mrs. Simmons accused in a voice laced with bitterness.
Karaโs face turned all shades of angry as she shot back, โAnd who can prove I started those rumors? Why are you blaming me?โ
โYou know damn well if you were the one! Itโs always the same with you jealous types, but I never thought youโd drag me into your schemes, trying to make an enemy out of Ms. Dawson and play the saint! The world doesnโt work like that. Now, pack your things and get out. I wonโt have tenants like you!โ Mrs. Simmons was known for her fiery temper.
Standing up indignantly, Kara retorted, โAs if I could care less about staying in this old dump! I was planning on leaving anyway. Youโll regret crossing me more than if youโd crossed Freya!โ
Kara had only returned to pack her bags. Audrey had long since told her to move into the Sutton Mansion, giving her a few days to sort her things out. She wouldnโt have bothered staying in this crumbling neighborhood if the Sutton family hadnโt delayed sending a car.
At that moment, Kara seemed to have forgotten the pride she felt when she first moved to the city and found this place to live in.
Mrs. Simmons was astounded by Karaโs shamelessness. She had only rented her place to Kara out of pity for a young girl struggling in a new city. And she got backstabbed. It was like a real-life version of betrayal.
Kara packed up all her stuff and carried it out of the room. But as she stood at the entrance of the neighborhood, she hit a snag. The Sutton family hadnโt reached out to her yet, and she was torn about whether it would be wrong to contact them first.
With little money on her and no way to afford a taxi to a hotel, Kara had no choice but to call the Sutton family.
A maid answered the phone. โThis is the Sutton Mansion. May I ask whoโs calling?โ
โItโs me, Kara. Iโve packed my stuff, wondering when I can move over.โ
โMove over?โ The maid paused, confused. She wasnโt aware of any arrangement for Kara to move in. โMs. Orson, there seems to be some misunderstanding. I havenโt heard of any arrangements for you to stay with us.โ
